Fremont, NE- The Moo win their 34th and final game of the regular season in a closely-contested 9-8 win over the Hastings Sodbusters. Fremont ends the regular season at 18-7 in the 2nd half/34-20 overall, which gives them the best overall record in the Independence League. Hastings ends their season at 6-19 in the 2nd half(20-32 overall).
Fremont would open up the scoring in the 2nd with an Ian Graf single that scored Tyler Harrington. Nick Balch would score on an error in the next at-bat before Ben Higdon hit a two-RBI single that scored Derian Morphew and Lukas Hamzeh. A Graf double in the 3rd would add on two more runs in Harrington and Bentley Boekhout to make it 6-1 Moo. Carter Sintek, brother of Fremont Moo legend Brody Sintek, made his debut for the Moo and would contribute immediately with a go-ahead two-RBI double that scored Zane Skansi and Zech Samayoa to go up 8-7. Balch would add to his night in the 8th with an insurance run to seal the game in the form of an RBI single that scored Evan Panjwani.
Jason Axelberg would be credited with the win for the Moo going 2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits, and striking out four. Tyler Seebaum would get the save for Fremont, closing out the season by going 1 inning, allowing no runs on no hits, and striking out one. Matt Sagmit would be charged with the loss for Hastings going 0.1 innings, allowing two runs on no hits, and getting one strikeout.
Fremont will open up the 2022 Independence League Divisional Playoffs against the Western Nebraska Pioneers at Historic Moller Field at 5:05 PM CST.
