STORYLINES
It’s Opening Day!...Sorta
The Independence League opened its fourth season on Friday, May 23rd, with the Oahe Zap visiting the Casper Spuds and the Spearfish Sasquatch traveling down to Hastings to face the Sodbusters.

Road Sweet Road
The Moo opens their 2025 campaign on the road for an incredible eight game in seven day road trip, with a five game series against the Spearfish Sasquatch. The Moo started the 2024 season with a five game road trip to Oahe and Hastings, going 4-1 to open the season.

Black Hill Bandits
The Moo went 3-4 versus the Sasquatch in 2024, but in the three game set in Spearfish, the Moo stole two of three, scoring 36 runs in the late July series. The Moo have a 6-6 record in Spearfish all-time.

Busting the Rust Off
The Moo have a 3-3 record all-time when playing their first game of the season. 

Spearfish Struggles
The Sasquatch opened their season with a 4-game series in Hastings, dropping three and having one rained-out. Spearfish was outscored 24-16 in the opening series and did not register their first hit until the 8th inning with 2 outs of the first game against the Sodbusters.

FREMONT:
30 - RHP ZACH VINCENT
Vincent Is a 6'5, 5th year from Tucson, Arizona. For Midland University this spring, Vincent went 5-6 in 2025 in 12 apps. and 7 starts. Collected 50 k’s and had an ERA of 4.46. Vincent also pitched in 9 games for the Moo last season, compiling a 1-2 record with a 5.63 ERA in 38.1 IP. He takes the mound for Moo tonight.

#4 - RHP/OF GRANT RYCHINOVSKY (B/T: R/R)
Rychinovsky is a freshman from Adel, Iowa who attends Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. Rychinovsky is a two-way player, who appeared in 47 games, batted .344 with 3 HR’s and 22 RBI’s. 4-4 SBs On the mound, Rychinovsky went 1-5 in 9 games (8 starts) and finished with a 10.29 ERA

SPEARFISH
#23 - OF SAM KWAPNIOSKI (B/T: L/L)
Kwapnioski is a junior at Doane University and is from Columbus, Nebraska. Kwapnioski has started hot this season at the plate, going 5-10 from the plate with one double. He has scored once and has one RBI. Kwapnioski continues his hot hitting, as at Doane in the past spring he batted .433 in 44 games for the Tigers.

#27 - OF ETHAN MOOSER (B/T: L/R)
 Mooser is a 6’2, redshirt freshman at Northern Colorado. Mooser hails from Mount Elgin in Ontario, Canada and has played a big part in the Sasquatch lineup. He leads the team with 4 RBI’s. He went 2-3 in 5 PA with 3 RBIs in a 7-6 walk-off loss to the Sodbusters on May 24th. Mooser batted .241 in the spring and collected 11 RBIs.

The Moo outhit the Sasquatch 10 to 8 but the Moo defense would faulter, commiting 6 errors defensively. An Error Too Many The Moo opened their season by committing 6 errors in the opening contest against Spearfish. California Killer Cal State-Chico’s Michael Baker would go 3-5 with 3 RBI’s in the loss. His debut performance would be highlighted by his bases-clearing double in the top of the 8th to cap off a 5-run inning for the Moo. All Tied Up With the win last night, the Sasquatch have tied the all-time series at 15 games each. The Sasquatch improved to a 7-6 home record against the Moo Double Header Duty The only scheduled doubleheader takes place today at the Black Hills Energy Stadium. The first game is set to take place at 11:05 MST / 12:05 CST and the second following at 6:05 MST / 7:05 CST. Both games will be 7 innings long. PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR: FREMONT: #31 - INF MICHAEL BAKER (B/T: R/R) Baker’s opening day performance was a good one in his Moo debut, driving in 3 runs on a double that would see the Moo take a late lead. Baker collected three hits in his 5 at-bats to lead the way offensively #20 - INF JOSHUA HARDAMON (B/T: R/R) The Midland Warrior’s summer season started with a 2-4 day at the plate. He would score twice and drive in 3 runs as the Moo fell in the opener. He looks to remain a big part of the Moo lineup going forward. SPEARFISH #23 - OF SAM KWAPNIOSKI (B/T: L/L) Kwapnioski is a junior at Doane University and is from Columbus, Nebraska. Kwapnioski has continued his dominance at the plate, as the Doane U. centerfielder has 7 hits in 15 at-bats this season, leading the team with a .467 batting average. He reached and scored twice in yesterdays game and he looks to remain tough at the plate. #26 - C OWEN MICHELSON (B/T: R/R) Michelson had himself a great day at the plate in yesterday's contest versus the Moo, going 2-4 while driving 3 RBI’s. The Fremont Moo opened their 2025 campaign with a Black Hills Battle against the Spearfish Sasquatch, with the Sasquatch taking the victory 10 to 9 in 9 innings. 6 errors Black Hills Energy Stadium was a pack house for the home opener as William Furry (Capital U.) took the mound for the Sasquatch. Nikolai Wede (MSU-Mankato) watched the first delivery from Furry miss low and away and the Moo had begun. The offensive attack for Spearfish began in the bottom of the second. A pair of errors, a pair of groundouts, and a passed ball would see the Sasquatch push across 3 runs to go up at the end of the frame. The Moo answered back with a 3-run inning of their own, pushing across 3 in the top of the third. The Moo would take the lead in the top of the forth, when Josh Hardamon (Midland U.) would drive a double down the leftfield line to bring home Wede to give the Moo their first lead of the season, 4-3. The back-and-forth affair would continue through the next four innings. The fifth would see the Spearfish tie with Owen Michaelson (UNC-Asheville) driving home a run to tie. The sixth would see the Sasquatch explode for four runs to take an 8 to 4 lead. The eighth would be the Moo's biggest inning. With the bases-loaded and two outs with two strikes against him, Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would have the Moo's biggest hit of the night, with a bases clearing, 3-RBI double to make it 9-8 Moo. The lead wouldn't hold as the Moo would faulter once more in this one, with a the tying run scoring on a passed ball and the winning run following not long after as an RBI single from Owen Michaelson would bring home Seth Nelson (Lewis and Clark St. Co) to bring the Sasquatch fans to their feet. They wouldn't sit back down as Aidan Knowles (OK. Wesleyan) would slam the door shut to end the game, retiring the final three batters in order to secure the 10-9, topsy-turvy affair to open the Moo schedule. Zach Vincent (Midland U.) took the mound for the Moo. He would not allow a hit until the 4th inning, when Ben Feuer (Southwestern Uni.) would line a base hit into center. Vincent would go 5.0 innings, giving up 4 runs, 1 earned, on 3 hits and 4 walks, with 1 strikeout. Joshua Hardamon (Midland U.) open his season with a fine night at the plate, going 2-4 with 3 RBI's, a double, and scored 2 runs. Michael baker (Cal State-Chico) would open his Moo summer with a 3-5 night, driving in 3-runs on his late double. The Moo would have an unconventional looking score line, driving in 9 runs on 10 hits while committing 6 errors. The Sasquatch would score 10 runs on 8 hits with no errors to get the win.
