The hottest team in the Independence League took the field on Thursday night, looking to extend their win streak to five straight. Luca Dickinson would be the man to lead the charge toward the goal. With his mother in attendance, Dickinson (Skyline) would spin a complete game shutout, striking out a season-best eleven (11) batters. He would allow three (3) hits and hit one (1) batter. The defense behind was perfect, committing no errors while starting two double plays behind Dickinson. The offense started slow, waltzing through four innings scoreless until the fifth, when Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) would score on a passed ball to give the Moo a 1-0 lead. Jacobsen would strike again with a sac fly in the sixth to make it 2-0, as Nate Wachter (South Dakota State) would score from third. The Moo would blow it open in the seventh inning, scoring three. The Moo came back from their small, three-day break and didn’t miss a beat, as they would cruise to an 11-4 victory over the traveling Plainsmen on Wednesday night. It was a mix of perfecting the three facets of the game for the Moo. Good hitting, good pitching, and good defense all helped push the Moo toward their fourth win in a row. The scoring started right away in the first for the Moo. Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) slashed a two-RBI double off of Owen Kelley to make it 2-0 Moo. Baker would steal second, and with Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) standing on third, all Fuch had to do was see the throw down to second on the steal, which would allow him to score, making it 3-0 Moo. It started with the Moo offense and Michael Baker’s 5-for-5 night at the plate. In the second, Baker dug in and drove home Fuchino with an RBI double, making it 4-0 Moo. No inning would be bigger for the Moo than the fifth. Seven runs would score for the Moo. A pair of sac flies, a walk, a single, and RBI doubles from Seve Aguirre (Southeastern Oklahoma State) and Baker again would see the Moo go up 11-0 at the end of five. It was more than enough run support for Brooks Kneifl (Wayne State), who would spin six wonderful innings, striking out six batters. The Plainsmen would get a pair back with a Chris Ortega two-run home run, his first of the summer, making it 11-2. The last bit of offense for the Plainsmen would come on a Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) throwing error that would bring home two. It was 11-4 as Joe Hauser (Creighton) would hunker down and get through the final three innings to secure the 11-4 Moo victory. Zach Vincent (Midland) would take the mound and allow a run to score in the first on a fielder's choice. It would be the only run the Moo would allow as the bats would answer back big. SEVEN runs would cross the plate in the inning, highlighted by Jake Mitchell’s two-RBI double, and a Joshua Hardamon two-run RBI double. To cap it all off in the bottom of the 6th, Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern) would double home Brayden Jones and Caiden Brezinski (Butler) to put it well out of reach. 14-1 would be the final after seven innings because of the ILB’s ten-after-seven-run rule.
