Moo Fall to Fightin' Cranes in Seven Innings for First Loss of Season

FREMONT, Neb. — The Fremont Moo opened a three-game series against the Grand Island Fightin' Cranes on Friday night at Moller Field. Grand Island jumped out to an early lead and handed the Moo a 14-2 run-rule loss in seven innings.
The Fightin' Cranes struck first with a run in the top of the first inning.
Giovanni Malatesta recorded a two-out single to get the Moo offense started in the bottom of the first. Liam Sullivan followed with a walk, and Brayden Mitchell was hit by a pitch to load the bases. However, Grand Island escaped the inning with a strikeout to leave the bases loaded.
The Fightin' Cranes broke the game open in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 8-0 after scoring three runs in the frame. Grand Island continued to add on, pushing its advantage to 14-0 by the end of the sixth inning.
Easton Leahy sparked the Moo offense with a double in the bottom of the sixth. Wyatt Throckmorton drew a walk, and Burke Jasa singled up the middle to load the bases. An error on a throw allowed Leahy to score, putting the Moo on the board and cutting the deficit to 14-1.
Eamon O'Gorman and Liam Sullivan opened the bottom of the seventh with consecutive singles. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position before a sacrifice fly brought home O'Gorman to make it 14-2. Grand Island recorded the final out to secure the run-rule victory.
The Fremont Moo (1-1) will continue the three-game series against the Grand Island Fightin' Cranes (3-0) on Saturday, May 30. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Moller Field for Salute to Service Saturday. All veterans and first responders will receive free general admission with a valid ID.
