Late Surge Lifts Grand Island Past Moo

FREMONT, Neb. — The Fremont Moo continued their three-game series against the Grand Island Fightin' Cranes on Saturday evening at Moller Field during Salute to Service Night. The Moo jumped out to an early lead with a home run on the first pitch of the game, but the Fightin' Cranes rallied for a 14-4 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Ripken Fleck energized the Fremont crowd early, crushing the first pitch of the game over the left-field fence for a leadoff home run. Liam Sullivan followed with a one-out walk and stole second base to move into scoring position. A two-out double by Easton Leahy brought Sullivan home to double Fremont's advantage.
Jacob Coshenet then drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Dominic Palma reached on a throwing error, allowing Leahy to score and extend the Moo lead to 3-0 at the end of the first inning.
After a few scoreless frames, Tyler Schroeder got the Moo offense going again in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out double. Fleck followed with an RBI single to score Schroeder and push Fremont's lead to 4-0.
Grand Island got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. A two-out walk followed by an error brought home the Fightin' Cranes' first run. A subsequent single plated another run to cut the Moo lead to 4-2.
The Fightin' Cranes' bats came alive in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs to take a 9-4 lead. Grand Island continued its offensive surge in the seventh, adding five more runs to extend the advantage to 14-4.
Fleck and Sullivan were both hit by pitches in the bottom of the seventh to put two runners aboard. Leahy drew a walk to load the bases, but Grand Island recorded the final out to secure the 14-4 run-rule victory.

All children 12 and under receive free admission with a paid adult. Kids can run the bases after the game, and ice cream sundaes will be available at half price.
