Moo Complete Sweep of Sodbusters in Season Opening Series

The Fremont Moo completed a two-city, three game sweep of the Hastings Sodbusters, with a 9-2 victory at Duncan Field, Thursday night.
The Moo offense got going early, by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Josh Blount and Ben Swails drew one out walks and Christian Hobbs delivered a two rbi triple into the right field corner to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Hadyn Crawford provided a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Hobbs to make it 3-0, Moo. Fremont would add three more runs in the top of the second. After chasing Sodbusters' starter Fred Juden, early in the second inning, Josh Blount would follow Blake Tablazon and Hunter Palmer's one-out walks with an rbi groundout to second, plating Tablazon. Swails, then delivered an rbi double, scoring Palmer and Hobbs followed with an rbi single, plating Swails, making it 6-0, Fremont. The Sodbusters got on the board in the bottom of the second when Nick Jones drew a walk and four batters later, would score on Layne Shiers' fielder's choice, making it 6-1. Fremont would add to the lead in the fourth. Braden Sweet, Palmer and Blount all delivered consecutive singles off Hastings' reliever Adam DeBoer. Blount's single drove in two, making it 8-1, for the Moo.
Fremont would add a run in the seventh. Sammy Contacos was hit by a pitch from Tex Cook. Three batters later, Tablazon would drive him in on a fielders' choice, to put Fremont up 9-1. Hastings would push across a run in the bottom of the ninth, as Calvin Johnson drew a bases loaded walk off reliever Ben Brown, making the score 9-2. However, Brown got Nolan Oliver to ground out to third for the final out of the ballgame.
Fremont starter Logan Anderson, a University of Sioux Falls product, picked up the win. The Omaha, Nebraska native pitched six innings, giving up two hits, one run, walked two and struck out four with one hit by pitch. Brown, a Midland University pitcher from Wichita, Texas pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits, one run, walking two and striking out six.
Hastings' Juden took the loss, facing just eight batters in one inning, plus one batter. He gave up one hit, four runs, four walks, with one strikeout. DeBoer pitched three innings, giving up six hits, four runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Cook pitched the final five innings, giving up two hits, one run, walked one and struck out six. Hobbs led Fremont at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three rbi's. Nick Jones led Hastings with a 2-for-3 performance.
Hastings is 0-3 on the season and opens a three-game series at Spearfish, against the Sasquatch, Friday. Fremont is 3-0 and begins a three-game series in Casper, Wyoming versus the Casper Spuds.
