Fremont Suffers First Loss of the Season
The Fremont Moo dropped their first game of the year, Friday night, 14-5 to the Casper Spuds, at Mike Lansing Field, in Casper, Wyoming.
Fremont got on the board first, when Hunter Palmer scored on a fielding error by Casper starting pitcher Tirstin Tatum. However, the Spuds would tie the game in the bottom of the first when Nathan Martinez brought home Elijah Reever on a rbi groundout. Casper would extend the lead in the second, plating four runs with three hits off Fremont starter Kadyn Van Hill, plus a fielding error, making the score 5-1. The Moo would get a run back in the top of the third when Christian Hobbs knocked in Hunter Palmer with a rbi single, making the score, 5-2. However, the flood gates opened on Fremont in the bottom of the third. Casper sent ten batters to the plate scoring six runs on six hits and two more Fremont errors to make it 11-2, after three innings.
The Spuds extended the lead when Nathan Martinez delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center field, scoring both Elijah Reeves and Matthew Marsic, on the play making it 13-2, Casper. Fremont showed some life in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on back-to-back rbi singles by Alec Villanueva and Blake Tablazon, before Nick Kemper scored when Palmer hit into a 6-4-3 ground out double play. Casper would add one more run in the bottom of the sixth, when Chandler Stocking scored on a fielding error by Tablazon at short, for the eventual final score of 14-5. Casper scored 14 runs off eleven hits and six Fremont errors. The Moo tallied five runs off six hits and two Spuds miscues.
Casper starter Tristin Tatum earned the win, pitching five innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs, striking out three and walking three. Fremont's Kadyn Van Hill took the loss. The Omaha native, and Iowa Western Community College product pitched two innings, giving up six hits, four earned runs, striking out three and walking two. Braden Sweet pitched four innings of relief for Fremont. Also, an Omaha native and Iowa Western player, he gave up five hits, two earned runs with five strikeouts and two walks. Alec Villanueva pitched the final two innings for the Moo. The Boerne, Texas native and Midland University Warrior struck out one and walked four.
Chandler Stocking led Casper offensively, going 3-for-4 with a rbi. Nathan Martinez was 1-for-5 with five rbi's.
Tyman Long led the Moo on offense. The Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, who plays at Southern Nevada was 2-for-5.
Casper is now 1-0 on the season, while Fremont is 3-1. The teams will play game two of the three-game weekend series, Saturday night. First pitch from Mike Lansing Field, in Casper is 7:30pm (CT). The game will be broadcast on Big Dog Country, 98.9 FM and 1340 AM and at www.fremontmoo.com
