The game featured a pitching duel, as both teams remained scoreless through the first five innings. Salina finally broke through in the sixth, scoring one run before adding another in the seventh to take a 2-0 lead. The Moo got on the board in the eighth inning. Ripken Fleck led off with a one-out single, and Wyatt Throckmorton followed with a double to center field to move Fleck to third. Fleck was caught in a rundown between third base and home plate, but an errant throw by the Salina catcher allowed him to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Burke Jasa stepped to the plate in the ninth and launched a solo home run, his third consecutive game with a homer, to tie the game at 2-2 and force extra innings.
