Spuds Sweep Series From Moo

Fremont, Nebraska - Sunday afternoon at Historic Moller Field, the weather conditions were pristine for baseball. However, The Fremont Moo could not get any fair weather plays to go their way against the ILB leading Casper Spuds, for the second straight game, in a 10-1 loss.

Casper began the scoring in the top of the first. Against Fremont starter Logan Anderson, Casper's Elijah Reeves led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Wesley Flatt drew a walk and two batters later Josh Phillips did the same. Then, Kenny Jackson hit a two-rbi single to right, scoring Reeves and Flatt, to put The Spuds ahead, 2-0. An error by Trey Brooks in right field put runners at second and third. Then, Chase Burke hit a hot shot near short, but the ball hit the lip of the grass in front of Moo shortstop Steven Espinoza, and shot into center field for a two-rbi single, plating Phillips and Jackson, to make it a 4-0 Casper advantage.

The Spuds added to the lead in the top of the sixth. Against Fremont reliever Hayden Kelberlau, Parker Burt drew a walk, with one out. Then, Elijah Reeves singled, putting runners at first and second. A base on balls to Wesley Flatt loaded the bases. Then, Dylan Schlotterback hit a ground ball to short that forced out Flatt, but the relay throw to first by Parker Mooney was high, scoring Burt, to make it a 5-0, Casper lead.

Casper added two more runs in the top of the seventh. The Spuds put together three consecutive hits against Kelberlau. Kenny Jackson doubled, then Chase Burke did the same, scoring Jackson, to make it 6-0. Matt Marsic singled, bringing home Burke, to put Casper up 7-0. Marsic stole second, then third. With one out, Parker Burt hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Marsic, to make it an 8-0 Casper lead.

The Spuds added to the tally in the top of the eighth. Against Fremont reliever Alex Oliver, Dylan Schlotterback doubled. Then, Kody Clausius singled to put runners at the corners. Two batters later, Maddox Henderson hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Schlotterback, to make it a 9-0, Spuds advantage.

Casper added one more in the top of the ninth. Hunter Billingsley led off with a single. Then, Stone Vacek hit a ground ball to short, where Fremont forced out Billingsley, but Mooney's relay throw to first was high, allowing Vacek to reach safely. Elijah Reeves singled. Then, Chandler Stocking hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Vacek, to put Casper up 10-0.

The Moo did get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, Bridger Coleman drew a walk against reliever Chris Bedgood. Then, Tyrus Petsche doubled off the top of the left field fence, putting runners at second and third. Parker Mooney walked to load the bases before Stephen Espinoza did the same, bringing home Coleman, to make it 10-1. Casper went to the bullpen and brought in Terris Williams, who got Fremont's Isaac Bonner to line out to shortstop for the final out of the game.

Casper (23-4, 4-0) won its thirteenth straight game and scored ten runs off fourteen hits with no errors. Fremont (18-13, 5-2) dropped its second in a row after scoring one run off ten hits, but committed four errors.

The Spuds starter Ty Vollmer (5-0) picked up the win. He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up nine hits, struck out two, walked one and committed one balk. Armani Knipper worked 1.0 inning, striking out three, walked one, hit one batter and committed one balk. Chris Bedgood pitched 0.2 innings, giving up one run off one hit and walked three. Terris Williams pitched 0.1 innings, getting the line out of Bonner, to end the game.

Fremont starter Logan Anderson (1-1) took the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings giving up three earned runs off five hits, struck out three, walked six, had one wild pitch and hit one batter. Hayden Kelberlau pitched 2.0 innings giving up three earned runs off five hits, struck out two and walked two. Alex Oliver pitched 2.0 innings giving up one earned run off four hits, and struck out two.

Offensively for Casper, Elijah Reeves for 4-for-5. Chandler Stocking was 0-for-1 with an rbi. Kenny Jackson was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Chase Burke went 2-for-3 with three rbi's. Maddox Henderson was 0-for-1 and drove home one run. Matt Marsic was 1-for-3 with an rbi. Parker Burt was 2-for-3 and had one run batted in.

For Fremont, Miles Meadows was 3-for-5. Tyrus Petsche went 2-for-5. Stephen Espinoza was 1-for-3 with one run batted in.

Casper is off Monday and will host the Oahe Zap in a two-game series beginning Tuesday, at Mike Lansing Field.

Fremont will have its longest break of the season. The Moo take three days off before they continue their 16-game home stand, beginning a four-game series with The Plainsmen, Thursday, July 4th, at 5:05 p.m., at Historic Moller Field.

More Information: After Sunday's loss, Fremont has now dropped four of six games versus The Spuds, this season. The only way Fremont and Casper would play again this year, is if Fremont qualifies for the ILB Championship Series by winning the second half of the schedule, or if Casper wins the second half and Fremont finishes with the next best overall league record. At 18-13, Fremont fell to fourth place in the league standings, one game behind second place Spearfish, and one-half game behind the Hastings Sodbusters.

Early Offensive Surge, Strong Pitching Lift Moo Past Renegades

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Fremont Moo wrapped up its trip to Jefferson City, Missouri, with a nine-inning contest on Sunday afternoon. The Moo used an early offensive surge and strong pitching to defeat the Renegades, 7-5. After two scoreless innings, the Moo offense broke through in the third. Giovanni Malatesta led off with a two-out single before Carter McPeak doubled to left field to score Malatesta. Easton Leahy drew a walk, and Eamon O'Gorman singled to load the bases. Burke Jasa then stepped to the plate and crushed a ball to right field for a grand slam, giving the Moo a 5-0 lead. The Moo stayed hot in the fourth as Malatesta was hit by a pitch to put a runner aboard. McPeak stepped to the plate and hammered a two-run home run to center field, extending the lead to 7-0. The Renegades broke through in the fifth inning and added more runs in the seventh, scoring five unanswered to cut the deficit to 7-5. Wyatt Henry shut down the Renegades over the final innings to secure the hard-fought victory as the Moo claimed the series finale, 7-5. Matthew Marceau earned the win after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four. Pitchers' Duel Slips Away as Moo Fall to Renegades

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Fremont Moo continued their series against the Jefferson City Renegades on Saturday evening. A pitchers' duel between the two teams kept the game close until a late-inning surge by the Renegades handed the Moo a 5-1 loss. Jefferson City struck first, scoring one run in the second inning before adding another in the fifth to take a 2-0 lead. The Moo broke through in the seventh inning. Wyatt Throckmorton drew a one-out walk and stole second base. With two outs, Stradeer Richardson was hit by a pitch before Tyler Schroeder singled to left field, driving in Throckmorton to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Renegades responded in the bottom of the eighth, stringing together several consecutive hits to score three insurance runs and extend their lead to 5-1. Fremont attempted to rally in the ninth but was unable to capitalize, falling 5-1. Renegades Edge Moo on Walk-Off in Series Opener

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Fremont Moo opened a three-game series against the Jefferson City Renegades in their first meeting of the season Friday night. The Moo fell in a close contest, 6-5, on a walk-off by the Renegades. After a scoreless first inning, Jefferson City got on the board in the second, plating a run to take an early 1-0 lead. The Moo responded in the third as Ripken Fleck laced a two-out double to put a runner in scoring position. Fleck later scored on a Renegades error to tie the game at 1-1. Jefferson City regained the lead with one run in both the third and fifth innings to make it 3-1. Fremont answered in the sixth. Eamon O'Gorman led off by drawing a walk before Carter McPeak singled to center field to put two runners aboard. Easton Leahy followed with a walk to load the bases. Matthew Marceau and Burke Jasa then drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to bring home two runs and tie the game at 3-3. The Renegades responded with another run in the bottom of the sixth to reclaim a 4-3 advantage. The Moo battled back in the seventh as O'Gorman drew another walk before Brayden Mitchell launched a two-run home run over the left-field fence to give Fremont its first lead of the night at 5-4. Coshenet's Two-Homer Performance Powers Moo to Series Sweep

SALINA, Kan. – Fremont Moo wrapped up its three-game series in Salina, Kansas, by cruising past the Salina Sliders in the finale with a 16-5, seven-inning run-rule victory. After a scoreless first inning, the Moo got on the board in the second. Brayden Mitchell drew a one-out walk to get things started before Jacob Coshenet ripped a two-out double to score Mitchell and give the Moo a 1-0 lead at the end of the inning. The Moo broke the game open in the third. Ripken Fleck, Giovanni Malatesta and Eamon O'Gorman drew three consecutive walks to load the bases. Easton Leahy laced a double to left field to score Fleck and Malatesta. Coshenet then crushed a three-run home run over the left-field fence to extend the lead to 6-0. Matthew Marceau reached on an error, and Tyler Schroeder followed with a two-out RBI single to make it 7-0. Salina answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third and added another run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-3. Mitchell led off the fifth with a single. SALINA, Kan. – Fremont Moo continued its three-game series against the Salina Sliders on Wednesday night, cruising to an 11-3 victory. After a scoreless first inning, Jacob Coshenet led off the second with a two-out single to get the momentum rolling. Matthew Marceau singled down the third-base line to advance Coshenet to second. Brayden Mitchell kept the rally alive with a single to right field, driving in Coshenet and Marceau to give the Moo a 2-0 lead. Salina tied the game in the third, scoring two runs to even the score at 2-2. Coshenet led off the fourth with a single, and Marceau reached on a fielder's choice. Mitchell singled to put runners on the corners before a groundout allowed Marceau to score. Giovanni Malatesta followed with a single to bring home Mitchell and give the Moo a 4-2 lead. The Moo extended its lead in the fifth as Strader Richardson led off with a one-out single up the middle. Coshenet followed with a single to put two runners aboard. Fremont put six runs on the board in the first inning. Giovanni Malatesta reached on a one-out error by the Sliders, and a groundout advanced him to second. Easton Leahy drew a walk before Eamon O'Gorman doubled to center field with two outs, driving in Malatesta and Leahy. Burke Jasa followed with a walk to keep the inning alive. Wyatt Throckmorton singled to center to score O'Gorman, and Matthew Marceau was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Ripken Fleck then singled to center, driving in Throckmorton to give the Moo a 6-0 lead. Salina answered with two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the deficit to 6-2. Moo Sweep Sliders in Doubleheader to Complete Three-Game Series Sweep

FREMONT, Neb. – Fremont Moo wrapped up a three-game series against the Salina Sliders on Sunday evening with a doubleheader. The Moo won Game 1, 6-1, before walking it off in extra innings for a 3-2 victory in the second game to complete the series sweep. GAME ONE: Fremont 6, Salina 1 After a scoreless first inning, Easton Leahy and Eamon O'Gorman drew back-to-back walks to lead off the second and get things started for the Moo. Leahy advanced to third on a passed ball to put runners on the corners. Tyler Schroeder lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Leahy and give the Moo a 1-0 lead. The Sliders tied the game in the top of the third, scoring one run to make it 1-1. Dominic Palma, Ripken Fleck and Giovanni Malatesta opened the bottom of the third with three consecutive singles. Carter McPeak followed with an RBI single to score Fleck and give the Moo a 2-1 lead. Malatesta later scored, and O'Gorman drove in McPeak with a single to center field to extend the lead to 4-1. Malatesta and McPeak reached on back-to-back Salina errors to begin the fifth. Leahy singled to left field to score Malatesta before O'Gorman followed with an RBI single to right, bringing home McPeak to make it 6-1. Fremont shut down Salina the rest of the way to secure the 6-1 victory. Gil Schroeder earned the win in his Fremont Moo debut, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings while allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six. The Sliders took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth. Tyler Schroeder advanced to third on a bunt in the bottom of the eighth, and a wild pitch allowed him to score the tying run, making it 2-2 and forcing a ninth inning. Wyatt Throckmorton laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance O'Gorman to third. Matthew Marceau drew a walk, and Schroeder was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Evan Androvett then drew a walk to force home O'Gorman, giving the Moo a 3-2 walk-off victory and completing the series sweep. McPeak's Five-Hit Night, O'Gorman's Walk-Off Power Moo to 11-10 Win

FREMONT, Neb. - Fremont Moo opened a three-game series against the Salina Sliders on Saturday night with a nine-inning contest on Fireworks Night. The Moo walked it off in the bottom of the ninth for an 11-10 victory over the Sliders. Giovanni Malatesta led off with a one-out single, and Carter McPeak drew a walk. A groundout by Easton Leahy brought home Malatesta to give the Moo an early 1-0 lead. Salina tied the game with a solo home run in the second inning to make it 1-1 before taking the lead in the third by scoring two more runs. Malatesta drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the third, and McPeak followed with a single to put two runners aboard. Leahy singled to right field to score Malatesta, and Eamon O'Gorman doubled to right field to bring home McPeak and tie the game, 3-3, at the end of the third. The Moo regained the lead in the fifth as Malatesta led off with a double to left field, followed by another double from McPeak to score Malatesta and make it 4-3. Leahy followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Matthew Marceau drew a walk to load the bases. Jacob Coshenet struck his bat for a double to left field, driving in Leahy and Marceau to extend the lead to 7-3. Fremont kept the momentum rolling in the sixth as McPeak led off with a double to left field, and Leahy drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. A flyout moved the runners to the corners before a fielder's choice allowed McPeak to score and make it 8-3. Harrison Hart struck his bat for a double to bring home Marceau and extend the lead to 9-3. Salina began chipping away at the Moo's lead by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 9-6. Ripken Fleck led off the bottom of the seventh with a single before McPeak ripped his third double of the night to score Fleck and make it 10-6. The Sliders continued their comeback by scoring three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie the game, 10-10. McPeak led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right field, and Wyatt Throckmorton entered as a pinch runner. Evan Androvett singled to center field before O'Gorman stepped to the plate and delivered a walk-off single to center, scoring Throckmorton and giving the Moo an 11-10 victory. Fremont capped off the night by celebrating the win with a postgame fireworks show. Moo Drop Series Finale to Sedalia

SEDALIA, Mo. – Fremont Moo wrapped up its two-game series against the Sedalia Steamers on Thursday night. The Moo jumped out to an early lead but fell, 11-2. The game carried special meaning as both teams participated in Strike Out Cancer Night. During the seventh inning, players held "Today, I Honor" signs while cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer walked the bases. Ripken Fleck led off the first inning with a single to center field, and a groundout advanced him to second. Fleck stole third, and a throwing error by the Steamers allowed him to score, giving the Moo an early 1-0 lead. Sedalia answered in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to tie the game, 1-1. The Steamers took control in the third inning, scoring three runs to build a 4-1 lead. They added four more runs in the fifth to extend their advantage to 8-1. The Moo scored its second run in the sixth inning as Tyler Schroeder and Dominic Palma opened the frame with back-to-back singles. Ripken Fleck followed with a walk to load the bases, and Schroeder scored on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 8-2. The Steamers added three more runs in the seventh inning to extend the lead to 11-2. The Moo was unable to rally, dropping the series finale by that score. Fremont (13-15) will have an off day before returning home to host the Salina Sliders in a three-game series. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fireworks Saturday festivities will follow the series opener.

Henry Dominates on the Mound as Moo Defeat Steamers 5-1

SEDALIA, Mo. – Fremont Moo traveled to Sedalia, Missouri, to face the Sedalia Steamers in a two-game series on Wednesday evening. A dominant pitching performance from Wyatt Henry led the Moo to a 5-1 victory over the Steamers. After five scoreless innings, the Moo broke through in the sixth. Giovanni Malatesta led off with a single before advancing to second on a groundout. Easton Leahy drew a one-out walk, and Eamon O'Gorman singled to bring home Malatesta for the game's first run and a 1-0 lead. Burke Jasa followed with a two-out double to score Leahy and move O'Gorman to third. Matthew Marceau then singled to right field, driving in O'Gorman and Jasa as the Moo extended their lead to 4-0 at the end of the sixth. Ripken Fleck reached on a one-out error in the seventh before Malatesta doubled, allowing Fleck to score and give the Moo a 5-0 advantage. Sedalia scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Moo closed out the 5-1 victory. Wyatt Henry earned the win after tossing eight scoreless innings, allowing just two walks while striking out three.
