Second Inning Homers Spark Moo To Lopsided Win

Fremont, Nebraska- Blake Tablazon, Tymon Long and Tyler Harrington hit home runs in the second inning, leading the Fremont Moo to a decisive 21-2 victory over the Oahe Zap, Wednesday night at Historic Moller Field.


The Moo got the offense going in the bottom of the first. Christian Hobbs led off with a single before Henry Hayman was hit by a pitch. Then, Tyman Long smacked a rbi double, scoring Hobbs to make it 1-0. Tyler Harrington, then poked a rbi single bringing in Hayman to put Fremont ahead 2-0. The next batter, Ben Swails, hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Long to make it 3-0,


Fremont's offense exploded in the second inning, as Fremont scored six runs, after sending eleven batters to the plate. With one out, Tabalzon hit the first pitch from Zap starter Nick Blessing (1-2) over the right field fence, to make it 4-0. Hobbs and Hayman followed with a single and a double before Tyman Long connected with a three-run homer, just to the right of the "Moller Monster", in left field, to make it 7-0. On the very next pitch, Harrington hit his first homer in his Moo career, to left field, making it 8-0. Swails singled and stole second and Trey Nichols drew a walk. Swails would take third on a pickoff attempt to second base. putting runners at second and third. Sammy Contacos drew a walk and Braden Sweet hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Swails to make it 9-0, the Moo.


In the fourth, Fremont added four more runs. Swails drew a one-out walk, then stole second and third. Two batters later, Contacos drew a walk. Next, an errant pickoff attempt to first by catcher Carson Trumpold scored Swails and advanced Contacos to third. Then, Sweet delivered a rbi single, scoring Contacos. Tablazon was hit by a pitch and Hobbs smoked a two-rbi double to make it 13-0, Fremont.


The Moo added five more in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Swails drew a walk and Nichols reached on a fielding error at shortstop. Contacos was hit by a pitch and Sweet drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Swails. Tablazon delivered a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Nichols. Hobbs would draw a walk, then, Hayman hit a fly ball to the warning track in left field that got Oahe's Kolby Rich turned around, and he dropped the ball, allowing Contacos, Sweet and Hobbs, to all score, making it 18-0, Fremont.


Oahe would get on the board in the sixth. Leadoff batter Jackson Mix drew a walk, before Kyle Memarian hit a fly ball to center that Braden Sweet chased after, but dropped, sending Mix to third and Memarian to seocnd. Then, Cy Probst hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Mix, to make it 18-1.


The Moo found home plate twice more in the bottom of the sixth. Swails delivered a one-out single ahead of a Nichols walk and a Contacos single. Braden Sweet hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Swails. Next, Tablazon hit a rbi single, making it 20-1, Fremont.


In the top of the eighth, recently inserted first baseman Jarred Heck hit a triple with one out. Two batter later, Trevor Seagraves smacked a rbi single, making it 20-2.


The final tally came in the bottom of the eighth. Contacos and Sweet drew back-to-back walks. Two batters later, Hobbs did the same, to load the bases. Next, pinch-hitter Darius Blasingane delivered a rbi, fielders's choice, plating Contacos, to make it 21-2.


Moo reliever, Zane Leyden finished up his three-inning appearance to earn the save, by retiring the side, in the top of the ninth.


Luke Hamzah (1-0), made his first appearance for the Moo, this season. The Gilbert, Arizona native, at Midland University, pitched six innings, giving up two hits, one unearned run, walked two, struck out eight, and had one wild pitch. Moo rookie Zane Leyden, a freshman from Firth, Nebraska, at Bellevue University, earned the three-inning save (1), giving up three hits, one run, walked one, struck out six and had one wild pitch.


Oahe starter Nick Blessing (1-2) pitched two innings, giving up nine hits, nine runs, walked two, struck out one, and yielded three home runs and hit one batter. John Patty pitched three innings, giving up two hits, four unearned runs, walked two, struck out two and hit two batters. Collin Quandee pitched three innings, yielding four hits, two earned runs, walked four, had one wild pitch and hit two batters. Eric Lemberg pitched one inning, giving up one run, walked three, and struck one out.


Eight Moo players recorded hits in the game. Christian Hobbs was 3-for-5 with two rbi's. Tyman Long went 2-for-6 with a three run homer (3) and four rbi's. Tyler Harrington was 3-for-6. With a single, double and a home run (1), he finished a triple shy of the cycle. and had two rbi's. Ben Swails was 2-for-3 with a rbi and stole three bases. Blake Tablazon was 2-for-4 with a home run (1).


More Information: With the Wednesday win, all fans that held on to their tickets may redeem them, next Wednesday, for a free general admission ticket to the Moo game versus the Spearfish Sasquatch, on Wednesday, June 14th at 7:05pm. The other two games in the Independence League Baseball Association were rained out Wednesday, so with the Moo victory, Fremont moved into sole possession of first place in the league, one-half game ahead of the Badlands Big Sticks. Tyler Harrington ran his hit streak to eight straight, for the future UAB Blazer. 


Up Next: Fremont (11-3) will go for the sweep against Oahe (1-12), Thursday night at 7:05 at Historic Moller Field. Thursday is "Jers-Day, Thursday". All fans that wear their favorite sports team's jersey, to the game will receive a general admission ticket for half price.

PROSPECTS: #17 - INF AIDEN MARTIN (B/T: R/R) Martin continues to lead the Prospects with a .417 batting average, collecting 10 hits in 24 at-bats. He also holds the third-highest OPS on the team at .958 #83 - OF AVERY MOORE (B/T: R/R) The monstrous Avery Moore has been a problem for pitchers all season. It was a fiesta, it had fireworks, and it had the Moo come out on top. The Friday night at Moller Field was a party from the start, the Moo needed keep the party going through the night. It was Broc Songster (Doane) against Drew Deremer for mound dominance and Deremer would get the leg up thanks to a Songster pass ball that would allow Jaxon Schumacher to score in the top of the third. The Prospects would take a 1-0 lead and it would hold as Deremer would mow through the Moo. Six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for Deremer before leaving after the sixth. Songster would navigate through four, before giving the ball to Wes Cunningham (Howard College). The “Hotstepper” would throw four scoreless innings, striking out a season high, six batters. The eighth would turn the tide for Moo. With two outs and trailing by one, Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) would single-home Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern College) to tie it at one. Then, play-maker Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would hit a double to right, scoring two, to give the Moo a 3-1 lead. Joe Hauser (Creighton) would put down the Prospects in order, 1, 2, 3, to end the ballgame. Moo picking up their second win in as many days. The final line saw the Moo score no three (3) on five (5) hits and committed no errors. The Prospects scored one (1) run on five (5) hits and committed no errors. The Moo moves to a 4-11 record. Firework Friday The Moo are 1-0 on nights when fireworks are shot off after the game. That lone win came against the Spearfish Sasquatch at Black Hills Energy Stadium on May 30th. PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR: FREMONT: #22 - INF LUKE SAXTON (B/T: R/R) In Saxton’s last game against the Prospects, the Missouri-St. Louis middle infielder went 2-4, with an RBI in the loss. Saxton has 4 hits in his last 5 games as well as 2 RBIs in that span. #32 - LHP BROC SONGSTER Songster (Doane) has made two starts this season—his first against the Spearfish Sasquatch was on May 29th. Songster went going 6.2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, walking 3, and striking out 5 as he picked up the win. Songster’s last outing on June 6th was an impressive 6.0 inning outing, giving up 3 hits while striking out a team-high nine 9 opposing batters. PROSPECTS: #18 - INF ELIJAH RUSSELL (B/T: R/R) Russell went 1-3 yesterday with 3 RBIs. His lone hit and 3 RBIs came from a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at three. #19 - UTL NICKOLA FRENCH (B/T: R/R) French had a good night at the plate yesterday, collecting 2 hits in 3 at-bats, and scoring once. PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR: FREMONT: #31 - INF MICHAEL BAKER (B/T: R/R) The Play-Maker, Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) has been the most productive bat for the Moo this season. He leads the Moo with a .389 AVG, fourteen (14) hits, five (5) doubles, and one (1) home run this season. #35 - RHP LUCA DICKINSON Dickinson (Skyline) has made quite the impression on the mound for the Moo this season. When it comes to starters, Dickinson has arguably been the silent producer for the rotation. While not having the large strikeout numbers like Broc Songster or Aiden McGrath, Dickinson has dazzled, only allowing three (3) walks and two (2) earned runs this season. PROSPECTS: #17 - INF AIDEN MARTIN (B/T: R/R) Martin enters this series batting .450 in six (6) games played this season. On top of that, he also has collected five (5) RBIs, which ties him with three other players for second on the team. #15 - OF JACOB PERRIN (B/T: R/R) The Southeast CC product has played a big part in the Prospects lineup this season. In eight (8) games this season, Perrin has nine (9) hits, going without one in only one game. It is the worst start in club history at a 3-8 record. Doubleheader Duty The Moo will face the Hastings Sodbusters in a game rescheduled from Tuesday, June 3rd. That will start at 4:05 with the originally scheduled Saturday game versus the Nebraska Prospects to follow at 7:05. Hot and Cold The Sodbusters enter with a perfect 8-0 record to begin the season. The Moo currently hold the longest losing streak in the ILB having dropped the last six (6). However, the Sodbusters have not won in Fremont since July 29th, 2022. (7-6 Sodbusters) Make Yourself at Home The Prospects will face the Moo fifteen (15) times throughout the season. Nine (9) times during the homestand. PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR: FREMONT: #17 - C CARTER SCHELLSMIDT (B/T: R/R) Schellsmidt (Valparaiso) has been a vital bat during this home stand. He currently has four (4) hits, including a solo home run and a double, as well as an RBI. He continues to be a loud bat in an otherwise quiet lineup. #2 - JAKE MITCHELL (B/T: R/L) Mitchell has turned it around at the plate during the homestand. After going 1-16 on the road to open the season, Mitchell has collected three (3) hits in ten (10) at bats, hitting a pair of doubles and collecting his first multi-hit game last night. HASTINGS: #25 - OF LUKE CAUSSEY (B/T: L/L) Caussey continues to swing a hot bat at the plate. Currently on a six-game hit streak, he has driven six (6) RBI’s in those games, as well as clobbering a home run at the spacious Duncan Field, and hitting two (2) triples. NEBRASKA: #83 - OF AVERY MOORE (B/T: R/R) Moore enters today batting a team-leading .435 with 10-23 at-bats. The usually festive Fiesta Friday at Moller Field would field an air of desperation as the Moo hoped that their losing streak was soon to end. Broc Songster (Doane) would take the mound, opposite of Evan Luke and the two would straight deal in the contest. Songster, an impressive six (6.0) innings, giving up three (3) hits while striking out a team-high nine (9) opposing batters. Luke would match with six (6.0) shutout innings with three (3) strikeouts. The lone bit of offense would come with an RBI double in the second inning for the Sasquatch. They would later strike for a single run in the eighth. It would be the only bit of offense for either team as the Sasquatch bullpen would compliment Luke’s start by shutting down the Moo bats. The Moo would fall 2-0 in nine and get swept by the Spearfish in the three-game series The final line saw the Moo score no runs on four (4) hits and committed no errors. The Sasquatch scored two (2) runs on four (4) hits while committing three (3) errors. The Moo fall to a 3-8 record. The Sasquatch improve to a 6-6 record.
