Quick Start Leads Fremont To Fifth Straight Win

Pierre, South Dakota - The Fremont Moo scored eight runs in the first three innings and went on to defeat The Oahe Zap 13-5, Thursday night at Hyde Stadium. With the Fremont victory and Spearfish suffering a loss, The Moo moved into sole possession of second place in the ILB overall standings.


Josh Blount started the Fremont offensive attack with a leadoff single against Oahe starter Angel Escobar, in the top of the first. Then, Jack Torosian did the same. A passed ball advanced the runners to second and third. The next batter, Cooper Fuchino, grounded out to short, scoring Blount, to make it 1-0. Then, Carter Sintek reached on an error by Oahe third baseman Aidan Johnson, and Torosian scored, to put The Moo up 2-0.


Oahe cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first. Facing Fremont starter Parker Otte, Emiliano Montijo was hit by a pitch. Mason Lang drew a walk, then, Leondro Guevara was hit by a pitch, to load the bases. The next batter, Garen Gladhill, hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Montijo, to make it 2-1.


Fremont added to its run total in the top of the second. Miles Meadows led off with a single, then stole second. Three batters later, Jack Torosian struck out swinging at a pitch in the dirt, however, catcher Mason Lang's throw to first was high, allowing Torosian to reach and Meadows to score, making it 3-1. The next batter, Cooper Fuchino, hit an rbi single, scoring Torosian, to make it a 4-1 Fremont lead.


The Zap had its most productive inning in the bottom of the second. With one out, Cole Ottersberg drew a walk. Then, Isaac Martinez reached on an error by Dylan Brandenburg at third, which put runners at second and third. A wild pitch scored Ottersberg and Martinez on the play, to make it 4-3.


Fremont responded with its biggest inning, in the third, sending ten batters to the plate and scoring four runs. Against reliever Collin Quandee, Fremont's Kayden Anderson was hit by a pitch. Then, Dylan Brandenburg drew a walk. Anderson stole third, then Miles Meadows drew a walk, to load the bases. The next batter, Connor Petersen was hit by a pitch, which brought Anderson home, to make it 5-3. Then, Josh Blount drew a walk, scoring Brandenburg, to make it 6-3. Jack Torosian hit a sacrifice fly to center, plating Meadows, to give The Moo a 7-3 lead. A double steal brought home Petersen, and The Moo led 8-3. 


Oahe plated one in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Isaac Martinez drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Emiliano Montijo hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Martinez, to make it an 8-4 game.


Fremont got the run right back. Against Oahe reliever Brady Glenn, Jack Torosian hit a fly ball to the warning track in right, but the ball was dropped by The Zap's Leondro Guevara. A fly out to right field by Cooper Fuchino advanced Torosian to third. Then, Torosian scored on a wild pitch, to give The Moo a 9-4 lead.


The Bovine Nine extended their lead in the top of the sixth. Kaden Anderson led off with a single. Then, Dylan Brandenburg reached on an error by Johnson at third base. The next batter, Miles Meadows, hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Anderson, to make it a 10-4 Fremont lead. Connor Petersen singled. Then, Josh Blount hit an rbi single, scoring Brandenburg, to make it an 11-4 Fremont advantage.


In the bottom of the sixth, The Zap scored their final run of the night. Facing Fremont reliever Grant Wagner, Oahe's Aidan Johnson singled. Wagner then got Cole Ottersberg to hit into a ground ball double play. The next batter, Isaac Martinez drew a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then, Emiliano Montijo singled, scoring Martinez, to make it 11-5.


Fremont tallied another run in the top of the eighth. Facing Oahe's Emiliano Montijo, Fremont's Miles Meadows drew a walk. Then, Connor Petersen singled. A balk advanced the runners to second and third. Two batters later, Jack Torosian grounded out to second, scoring Meadows, to make it 12-5. 


In the top of the ninth, The Moo scored one more time. Facing Oahe reliever Kayden Shivers, Fremont's Isaac Bonner doubled, with one out. A wild pitch advanced Bonner to third. Then, Kayden Anderson grounded out to second, scoring Bonner, to make it 13-5.


Fremont's Ryan Semin completed a three-inning save by retiring the Zap in order, in the bottom of the ninth.


Fremont (31-18, 18-7) scored thirteen runs off ten hits and committed two errors. Oahe (14-35, 9-13) plated five runs off four hits and had four errors.


Moo starter Parker Otte pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three earned runs off two hits, struck out three, walked four, had four wild pitches and hit two batters. Grant Wagner (1-0) earned the win. He pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one run off two hits, struck out three, walked one, committed one balk and had one wild pitch. Ryan Semin (2) earned the save. He pitched 3.0 innings, struck out four and hit one batter.


Oahe starter Angel Escobar (3-2) took the loss. He pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one earned run off five hits and struck out two before an arm injury forced him to leave the game. Collin Quandee pitched 0.2 innings, giving up four runs off no hits, walked three and hit four batters. Brady Glenn pitched 3.2 innings, giving up one earned run off three hits, struck out three, walked two and had one wild pitch. Emiliano Montijo pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one run off one hit, struck out one, walked two and committed one balk. Kayden Shivers pitched 1.0 inning, giving up one run off one hit.


Offensively for Fremont, Josh Blount was 2-for-5 with two rbi's. Jack Torosian was 1-for-6 and drove in two runs. Cooper Fuchino was 1-for-5 with two rbi's. Kayden Anderson was 2-for-5 with an rbi. Miles Meadows went 1-for-3 and drove in one. Connor Petersen went 2-for-4 with one run batted in.


For Oahe, Emiliano Montijo was 2-for-3 with an rbi. Mason Lang was 0-for-4 and drove in one. Garen Gledhill was 0-for-4 and also drove in one run.


Oahe dropped its seventh straight game and will conclude the season with a three-game series at The Casper Spuds, beginning Friday night.


Fremont has won five straight and opens a three-game series at the Spearfish Sasquatch Friday night. First pitch at Black Hills Energy Stadium is 7:05 p.m. (CT). More Information: With Fremont's win and Spearfish's loss to Casper Thursday, The Moo moved into sole possession of second place in the ILB overall standings. Fremont is one game ahead of The Sasquatch and Hastings, with three games to play. If The Moo can win two of three games in its series with Spearfish, they would qualify for the ILB best-of-five championship series versus the Casper Spuds. That series would begin on Tuesday, July 30th.

It was a fiesta, it had fireworks, and it had the Moo come out on top. The Friday night at Moller Field was a party from the start, the Moo needed keep the party going through the night. It was Broc Songster (Doane) against Drew Deremer for mound dominance and Deremer would get the leg up thanks to a Songster pass ball that would allow Jaxon Schumacher to score in the top of the third. The Prospects would take a 1-0 lead and it would hold as Deremer would mow through the Moo. Six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for Deremer before leaving after the sixth. Songster would navigate through four, before giving the ball to Wes Cunningham (Howard College). The “Hotstepper” would throw four scoreless innings, striking out a season high, six batters. The eighth would turn the tide for Moo. With two outs and trailing by one, Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) would single-home Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern College) to tie it at one. Then, play-maker Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would hit a double to right, scoring two, to give the Moo a 3-1 lead. Joe Hauser (Creighton) would put down the Prospects in order, 1, 2, 3, to end the ballgame. Moo picking up their second win in as many days. The final line saw the Moo score no three (3) on five (5) hits and committed no errors. The Prospects scored one (1) run on five (5) hits and committed no errors. The Moo moves to a 4-11 record. Saxton has 4 hits in his last 5 games as well as 2 RBIs in that span. #32 - LHP BROC SONGSTER Songster (Doane) has made two starts this season—his first against the Spearfish Sasquatch was on May 29th. Songster went going 6.2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, walking 3, and striking out 5 as he picked up the win. When it comes to starters, Dickinson has arguably been the silent producer for the rotation. While not having the large strikeout numbers like Broc Songster or Aiden McGrath, Dickinson has dazzled, only allowing three (3) walks and two (2) earned runs this season. PROSPECTS: #17 - INF AIDEN MARTIN (B/T: R/R) Martin enters this series batting .450 in six (6) games played this season. On top of that, he also has collected five (5) RBIs, which ties him with three other players for second on the team. #15 - OF JACOB PERRIN (B/T: R/R) The Southeast CC product has played a big part in the Prospects lineup this season. He continues to be a loud bat in an otherwise quiet lineup. #2 - JAKE MITCHELL (B/T: R/L) Mitchell has turned it around at the plate during the homestand. After going 1-16 on the road to open the season, Mitchell has collected three (3) hits in ten (10) at bats, hitting a pair of doubles and collecting his first multi-hit game last night. The usually festive Fiesta Friday at Moller Field would field an air of desperation as the Moo hoped that their losing streak was soon to end. Broc Songster (Doane) would take the mound, opposite of Evan Luke and the two would straight deal in the contest. Songster, an impressive six (6.0) innings, giving up three (3) hits while striking out a team-high nine (9) opposing batters. Luke would match with six (6.0) shutout innings with three (3) strikeouts. The lone bit of offense would come with an RBI double in the second inning for the Sasquatch. They would later strike for a single run in the eighth. It would be the only bit of offense for either team as the Sasquatch bullpen would compliment Luke’s start by shutting down the Moo bats. The Moo would fall 2-0 in nine and get swept by the Spearfish in the three-game series The final line saw the Moo score no runs on four (4) hits and committed no errors. The Sasquatch scored two (2) runs on four (4) hits while committing three (3) errors. The Moo fall to a 3-8 record. The Sasquatch improve to a 6-6 record. Slumpin’ :( The Moos 3-7 start through the first 10 games of the season, is the worst start to a season in club history. Season Series on the Line The season series currently sits at 3-4 in favor of the Sasquatch as the two come into the final game of the season series. PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR: FREMONT: #32 - LHP BROC SONGSTER Songster (Doane) makes his second start of the season. He looks to end the Moo’s five-game losing streak tonight. His last outing saw Songster go 6.2, giving up two (2) earned runs and five (5) hits as he struck out five (5) Sasquatch batters and got the win. #26 - INF/C COOPER FUCHINO (B/T: R/R) Fuchino (Creighton) is back at Moller for his second consecutive summer. Last night, last season’s extra-base leader picked up where he left off with a pair of doubles and picked up an RBI as well. SPEARFISH: #11 - OF LUCAS TERILLI (B/T: L/L) Terilli reached base five (5) times in many different ways in yesterday’s game. With that performance yesterday, Terilli moved his average up from .308 to .412, his OBP from .438 to .545, and his OPS from .822 to 1.016 #21 - C GIOVANNI MASTROROSA (B/T: R/R) Mastrorosa hit a big home run in last nights contest that kickstarted the Sasquatch rally.
