Moo lost the 1st game of the 2022 season on the road against the Gem City Bison 6-5 in heartbreaking fashion.

Laramie,WY- The Fremont Moo lost their first game of the 2022 Independence League season in heartbreaking fashion against the Gem City Bison 7-6 at Cowboy Field in Laramie, Wyoming.
Fremont got their first hit of the new season in the 1st inning with OF Zane Skansi hitting one down the right field line grinding out a double in the process before finally drawing blood in the 3rd inning with C Tyler Struck starting it off by reaching 1st on an error. Skansi then continued the offensive output with a single before a walk by INF Bobby Brown made it bases loaded. INF Nico Azpilcueta hit an RBI single bringing home Struck for the first run of the game before OF Hayden Lewis grounded out to 1st bringing home Skansi. 2 batters later, INF/P Nick Balch hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the 3rd runner of the inning Brown which would be the only runs of the game besides the 7th inning for the Moo.
Gem City also got their first hits at home in the first inning of their inaugural home stand before also scoring 2 runs in the 3rd to close the Moo lead to 1. INF's Quinn McCafferty and Justice Panton started off the inning with back-to-back singles before C Luke Banister hit an RBI Double to bring home McCafferty. DH Niko Penzonella then hit into a Fielder's choice bringing home Panton to get the 2nd run of the inning.
Gem City struck again in the 5th inning off an Sac Fly by Panton bringing home McCafferty to even up the score at 3-3 before Fremont struck again in the 7th inning with 2 runs started first by a Skansi walk. Azpilcueta then hit a triple to score Skansi before he was brought home by an Lewis RBI groundout for the 2nd run of the inning making it 5-3.
Gem City was shut down in order until the bottom of the 9th inning when OF Derek Wood started off the inning with a single before an Moo error allowed McCafferty, the next hitter up, and Wood to advance all the way to 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Panton started the Bison comeback with an RBI groundout bringing home Wood to make it 5-4 before Banister brought McCafferty home on an RBI single to tie the game up at 5. A single by Penzonella then set up the eventual walk-off single by INF Keegan Sueltz to get the Bison their 1st home win at Cowboy Field.
Balch took the loss(0-1), allowing 3 earned runs in 0.1 innings while Skansi, Azpilcueta, and Balch led the team with 2 hits each. The Moo came to Moller Field looking for a quick, three-game sweep of the Nebraska Prospects. The series finale would end with a massive 14-1 victory over the Prospects, run-ruling their opponent in seven innings. Zach Vincent (Midland) would take the mound and allow a run to score in the first on a fielder's choice. It would be the only run the Moo would allow as the bats would answer back big. Joshua Hardamon (Midland) would double home Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) to tie it up at one in the bottom of the first. Then in the third, Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) would scramble home on a passed ball to give the Moo a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The fourth would see three runs score. One on a Brayden Jones (Doane) single, and two on a Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) to make it 5-1 Moo. The fifth would be the Moo’s biggest inning. SEVEN runs would cross the plate in the inning, highlighted by Jake Mitchell’s two-RBI double, and a Joshua Hardamon two-run RBI double. To cap it all off in the bottom of the 6th, Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern) would double home Brayden Jones and Caiden Brezinski (Butler) to put it well out of reach. 14-1 would be the final after seven innings because of the ILB’s ten-after-seven-run rule. The final line saw the Moo score fourteen runs (14) on twelve (12) hits and committed four (4) errors. The Prospects scored one (1) run on four (4) hits and committed two (2) errors. The Moo improves to a 6-11 record. The Prospects fall to a 4-7 record. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Wednesday, June 18th. It was Broc Songster (Doane) against Drew Deremer for mound dominance and Deremer would get the leg up thanks to a Songster pass ball that would allow Jaxon Schumacher to score in the top of the third. The Prospects would take a 1-0 lead and it would hold as Deremer would mow through the Moo. Six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for Deremer before leaving after the sixth. Songster would navigate through four, before giving the ball to Wes Cunningham (Howard College). The “Hotstepper” would throw four scoreless innings, striking out a season high, six batters. The eighth would turn the tide for Moo. With two outs and trailing by one, Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) would single-home Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern College) to tie it at one. Then, play-maker Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would hit a double to right, scoring two, to give the Moo a 3-1 lead.
