Sioux Falls, S. Dak. – One strike away from taking back first place in the second half Clark Division race, the Fremont Moo lost in gut-wrenching fashion to Sioux Falls, 7-6, Friday in the next-to-last game in the regular season.
Spearfish had already lost to Wheat City, 8-0, and the Moo led by one going to the bottom of the ninth. Brendon Jones had retired 10 batters in a row and was ahead of Adonis Forte II 1-2, who hit a popup into short left field. It landed for a hit, and Forte raced into second and was called safe on a close play. Then with the count at 0-2, Dane Fraser sliced a line drive down the right field line that cleared the fence for a two-run game-winning home run.
As they did last night, Fremont (41-22 overall/21-10 second half) scored in the first inning. Tyler Push led off the game with a single to left, stole second, then with two outs scored on a double off the wall by Luke White. Then in the second, a two-out rally doubled the Moo lead. Peyton Leeper worked a two-out walk, moved to second on a wild pitch, then scored when Ryne Hays doubled to left to make it 2-0. Fremont tacked on another run in the fifth. After Push drew a leadoff walk, he moved to second on a wild pitch, then stole third before EJ Taylor lined a double to left to score Push and make it 3-0.
Sioux Falls (28-35/14-18) took advantage of Fremont wildness to take the lead in the fifth. After three straight walks to begin the inning, a two-run single by JT Mix cut the Moo lead to one. After another walk and a fielder’s choice left the bases loaded, Norris McClure drew a bases loaded walk, tying the game at three. A two-run single by Jesus Licon one batter later gave the Sunfish their first lead of the game at 5-3.
Fremont retook the lead in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Dillon Sears singled to right, then moved to second when Taylor singled to left. The bases were loaded when White was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch to Jack Simonsen scored Sears and advanced Taylor to third. Simonsen worked a walk to reload the bases. Then with two outs, Austin Baskin hit a broken-bat roller to third. Daniel Criquet-Danielson fielded the ball, then threw wildly to first, scoring Taylor and White to give the Moo a 6-5 lead.
Brendon Jones (2-1) took the loss, allowing the two runs only after dominating for the first 3.1 innings of relief, striking out seven. Taylor paced the Moo offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The Moo and Sunfish will close their regular season tomorrow night with a game starting at 6:35 pm. The game can be heard on FremontMoo.com and Big Dog 98.9 FM and 1340 AM. To qualify for the playoffs for a third straight season, Fremont must win and the Sasquatch must lose its regular-season finale to Wheat City.

PROSPECTS: #17 - INF AIDEN MARTIN (B/T: R/R) Martin continues to lead the Prospects with a .417 batting average, collecting 10 hits in 24 at-bats. He also holds the third-highest OPS on the team at .958 #83 - OF AVERY MOORE (B/T: R/R) The monstrous Avery Moore has been a problem for pitchers all season. It was a fiesta, it had fireworks, and it had the Moo come out on top. The Friday night at Moller Field was a party from the start, the Moo needed keep the party going through the night. It was Broc Songster (Doane) against Drew Deremer for mound dominance and Deremer would get the leg up thanks to a Songster pass ball that would allow Jaxon Schumacher to score in the top of the third. The Prospects would take a 1-0 lead and it would hold as Deremer would mow through the Moo. Six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts for Deremer before leaving after the sixth. Songster would navigate through four, before giving the ball to Wes Cunningham (Howard College). The “Hotstepper” would throw four scoreless innings, striking out a season high, six batters. The eighth would turn the tide for Moo. With two outs and trailing by one, Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) would single-home Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern College) to tie it at one. Then, play-maker Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would hit a double to right, scoring two, to give the Moo a 3-1 lead. Joe Hauser (Creighton) would put down the Prospects in order, 1, 2, 3, to end the ballgame. Moo picking up their second win in as many days. Saxton has 4 hits in his last 5 games as well as 2 RBIs in that span. #32 - LHP BROC SONGSTER Songster (Doane) has made two starts this season—his first against the Spearfish Sasquatch was on May 29th. Songster went going 6.2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs, walking 3, and striking out 5 as he picked up the win. Songster’s last outing on June 6th was an impressive 6.0 inning outing, giving up 3 hits while striking out a team-high nine 9 opposing batters. PROSPECTS: #18 - INF ELIJAH RUSSELL (B/T: R/R) Russell went 1-3 yesterday with 3 RBIs. His lone hit and 3 RBIs came from a three-run home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at three. #19 - UTL NICKOLA FRENCH (B/T: R/R) French had a good night at the plate yesterday, collecting 2 hits in 3 at-bats, and scoring once. When it comes to starters, Dickinson has arguably been the silent producer for the rotation. While not having the large strikeout numbers like Broc Songster or Aiden McGrath, Dickinson has dazzled, only allowing three (3) walks and two (2) earned runs this season. PROSPECTS: #17 - INF AIDEN MARTIN (B/T: R/R) Martin enters this series batting .450 in six (6) games played this season. The Moo currently hold the longest losing streak in the ILB having dropped the last six (6). However, the Sodbusters have not won in Fremont since July 29th, 2022. He currently has four (4) hits, including a solo home run and a double, as well as an RBI. He continues to be a loud bat in an otherwise quiet lineup. #2 - JAKE MITCHELL (B/T: R/L) Mitchell has turned it around at the plate during the homestand. After going 1-16 on the road to open the season, Mitchell has collected three (3) hits in ten (10) at bats, hitting a pair of doubles and collecting his first multi-hit game last night. The usually festive Fiesta Friday at Moller Field would field an air of desperation as the Moo hoped that their losing streak was soon to end. Broc Songster (Doane) would take the mound, opposite of Evan Luke and the two would straight deal in the contest. Songster, an impressive six (6.0) innings, giving up three (3) hits while striking out a team-high nine (9) opposing batters. Luke would match with six (6.0) shutout innings with three (3) strikeouts. The lone bit of offense would come with an RBI double in the second inning for the Sasquatch. They would later strike for a single run in the eighth. It would be the only bit of offense for either team as the Sasquatch bullpen would compliment Luke’s start by shutting down the Moo bats. The Moo would fall 2-0 in nine and get swept by the Spearfish in the three-game series The final line saw the Moo score no runs on four (4) hits and committed no errors. The Sasquatch scored two (2) runs on four (4) hits while committing three (3) errors. The Moo fall to a 3-8 record. The Sasquatch improve to a 6-6 record.
