Hastings, Nebraska- Pitching and defense was the name of the game, as the Frermont Moo shutout the Hastings Sodbusters, 2-0, Thursday night at Duncan Field. Three Moo pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout and for the second consecutive game, Fremont played errorless ball.
The Moo manufactured a run in the top of the first. Blake Tablazon led off with a single before Josh Blount and Henry Hayman reached on back-to-back walks, to load the bases. Two batters later, Tyman Long drove in Tablazon with a sacrifice fly to left, to make it 1-0.
In the fifth, Tyler Harrington and Long reached on back-to-back two out singles. Connor Peterson reached on a base and balls, then Sammy Contacos drew a bases loaded walk on a 3-2 pitch to put the Moo up 2-0, a score that would stand.
Fremont native Landon Mueller (1-0) earned the win. The Southeast Community College prospect pitched five innings, giving up one hit, walked three and struck out two with one wild pitch and hit one batter.
"It feels good to get a good team sweep", Mueller said. "Being able to get zero runs over the five innings is a good feeling. It is nice to pitch for the Moo and get a win for them."
Brandon Lundquist, the Omaha native at the University of Nebraska, pitched two innings, walking three and striking out three. Kadyn Van Hill, (1), also an Omaha native at Iowa Western Community College earned the save. He worked two innings, giving up one hit and hit one batter, however retiring the final five batters he faced, to secure the Moo win.
Hastings starter Fred Juden (0-2) took the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up four hits, two runs, walking five and striking out five. Connor Cholez pitched 2.1 innings, yielding one hit, walking three, striking out six and hitting one batter. Adam DeBoer pitched the final two innings, giving up two hits with two strikeouts and one wild pitch.
Offensively, the Moo were led by Tyler Harrington. The Lakeland, Tennessee native went 2-for-5 with two singles and a run scored. Harrington just wrapped up his collegiate season at Southwestern Tennessee Community College, where he was the league player of the year, and is headed to Alabama-Birmingham to play for the Blazers, next season.
