Leahy Powers Moo to Doubleheader Split Against Hastings

FREMONT, Neb. — Fremont Moo opened a three-game series against the Hastings Sodbusters on Saturday evening with a doubleheader after Friday night's game was postponed because of the threat of severe weather. The Moo fell 8-3 in Game 1 before rallying for a 7-3 victory in Game 2 to earn a split of the doubleheader.
GAME 1: Hastings Sodbusters 8, Fremont Moo 3
Ripken Fleck led off the first inning with a single to left field. Cooper Fuchino and Easton Leahy followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Burke Jasa delivered an RBI single to score Fleck and put the Moo on the board first, 1-0. Fuchino later scored on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 2-0 at the end of the first inning.
Hastings responded in the second inning with back-to-back walks, followed by a bunt, sacrifice fly and RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
The Sodbusters took the lead in the third inning with a three-run home run to left field, making it 5-2.
Hastings added two more runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 7-2.
The Sodbusters plated their final run in the fifth inning to make it 8-2.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Eamon O'Gorman reached on an error and stole second base. Giovanni Malatesta followed with an RBI single to score O'Gorman and cut the deficit to 8-3.
The Sodbusters held off the Moo the rest of the way to secure the 8-3 victory.
GAME 2: Fremont Moo 7, Hastings Sodbusters 3
Hastings struck first with a three-run home run in the opening inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
Easton Leahy led off the second inning with a double, and Wyatt Throckmorton followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Leahy later scored on a fielder's choice to get the Moo on the board, trailing 3-1.
Burke Jasa drew a leadoff walk in the fourth inning. A single by Leahy and a Hastings throwing error advanced Jasa to third and Leahy to second. Jacob Coshenet lifted a sacrifice fly to score Jasa and cut the deficit to 3-2. Throckmorton followed with an RBI single to score Leahy and tie the game at 3-3.
Malatesta led off the fifth inning with a single. Jasa reached on a fielder's choice before Leahy stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to left field, giving the Moo a 5-3 lead.
With two outs, Throckmorton reached on a Hastings error. Liam Sullivan lined a single to left field to move Throckmorton to third. O'Gorman followed with an RBI single to score Throckmorton and make it 6-3. Another Hastings throwing error allowed Sullivan to score, extending the lead to 7-3.
The Moo pitching staff held the Sodbusters scoreless the rest of the way to secure the 7-3 victory and earn a split of the doubleheader.

FREMONT, Neb. — The Fremont Moo wrapped up their three-game series against the Hastings Sodbusters on Sunday evening with a nine-inning contest. The Moo's offense erupted for 15 runs as Fremont earned a 15-11 victory to claim the series, 2-1. Hastings got on the board first in the top of the first inning with a single, a stolen base, and a Moo error to take an early 1-0 lead. Brayden Mitchell and Eamon O'Gorman drew walks to lead off the second inning, and Tukker Horner followed with a single to score Mitchell and tie the game at 1-1. Ripken Fleck ripped a double down the left-field line to score O'Gorman and give the Moo a 2-1 advantage. Giovanni Malatesta followed with a single up the middle to bring home Fleck and extend the lead to 3-1. The Sodbusters answered by stringing together several hits and sacrifice flies to knot the game at 3-3. Tyler Schroeder started the third inning with a one-out single, and Mitchell followed with a base hit to left field. A throwing error allowed Schroeder to advance to third and Mitchell to move into scoring position. Jacob Coshenet lined a double to left field to score Schroeder and put the Moo back in front, 4-3. O'Gorman added a sacrifice groundout to score Mitchell and make it 5-3. Horner then delivered a two-out RBI single to left field, bringing home Coshenet and extending the lead to 6-3. The Sodbusters added a run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. Malatesta drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the fourth, and Wyatt Throckmorton was hit by a pitch. Coshenet then blasted a three-run home run over the left-field fence to stretch the Moo advantage to 10-4. Hastings continued to battle back, scoring two runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to trim the lead to 10-7. Mitchell and Coshenet opened the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles. O'Gorman lined a single into right-center field to score Mitchell and make it 11-7. Fleck reached on an error that allowed Coshenet to score, extending the lead to 12-7. Malatesta followed with a two-run single to left field, bringing home O'Gorman and Fleck to push the lead to 14-7. The Sodbusters continued to chip away, scoring three runs in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 14-10. Schroeder led off the bottom of the seventh with a single up the middle. O'Gorman drew a two-out walk, and Horner reached on an error that allowed Schroeder to score and increase the lead to 15-10. Hastings added a run in the ninth inning, but the Moo shut the door to secure the hard-fought 15-11 victory and series win. After a scoreless first inning, Brayden Mitchell was hit by a pitch to lead off the second. Jacob Cochenet reached on an error, and Mitchell advanced to third on the same throwing error to put runners on the corners. Eamon O'Gorman singled to right field to score Mitchell as the Moo got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead. The Salina Sliders responded in the bottom of the second with six runs, including a three-run homer, to take a 6-1 lead. Giovanni Malatesta was hit by a pitch to open the third, and Cooper Fuchino reached on a fielder's choice. Easton Leahy brought Fuchino home with a single to right field to make it 6-2. Cochenet drew a walk in the fourth, and O'Gorman was hit by a pitch. Tukker Horner then drew a walk to load the bases. A single to center field by Ripken Fleck scored Cochenet and O'Gorman. Malatesta followed with a single to center field that scored Horner and cut the deficit to 6-5. The Sliders extended their lead to 9-5 in the fifth. Fleck and Schroeder both advanced on an error before Liam Sullivan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Moo dropped the series finale, 13-0, in seven innings and were swept in the three-game set. Grand Island jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Fightin' Cranes' bats stayed hot in the second, plating three more runs to extend their advantage to 7-0. A hit-by-pitch and a single added another run in the third inning, making it 8-0. The Fightin' Cranes added to their lead in the fifth inning with a walk and a sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 9-0. Grand Island scored its final four runs in the seventh inning to make it 13-0. The Fightin' Cranes held the Moo scoreless throughout the contest to secure the run-rule victory. Jacob Coshenet then drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Dominic Palma reached on a throwing error, allowing Leahy to score and extend the Moo lead to 3-0 at the end of the first inning. After a few scoreless frames, Tyler Schroeder got the Moo offense going again in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out double. Fleck followed with an RBI single to score Schroeder and push Fremont's lead to 4-0. Grand Island got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. A two-out walk followed by an error brought home the Fightin' Cranes' first run. A subsequent single plated another run to cut the Moo lead to 4-2. The Fightin' Cranes' bats came alive in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs to take a 9-4 lead. Grand Island continued its offensive surge in the seventh, adding five more runs to extend the advantage to 14-4. Fleck and Sullivan were both hit by pitches in the bottom of the seventh to put two runners aboard. Leahy drew a walk to load the bases, but Grand Island recorded the final out to secure the 14-4 run-rule victory. However, Grand Island escaped the inning with a strikeout to leave the bases loaded. The Fightin' Cranes broke the game open in the fifth inning, extending their lead to 8-0 after scoring three runs in the frame. Grand Island continued to add on, pushing its advantage to 14-0 by the end of the sixth inning. Easton Leahy sparked the Moo offense with a double in the bottom of the sixth. Wyatt Throckmorton drew a walk, and Burke Jasa singled up the middle to load the bases. An error on a throw allowed Leahy to score, putting the Moo on the board and cutting the deficit to 14-1. Eamon O'Gorman and Liam Sullivan opened the bottom of the seventh with consecutive singles. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position before a sacrifice fly brought home O'Gorman to make it 14-2. Grand Island recorded the final out to secure the run-rule victory. A BovineBall finale ends with the Prospects taking a 10-8 victory as the 2025 season comes to a close. The final game of the season would not be an ordinary contest. The Moo and the Nebraska Prospects would agree to a set of rules, similar to that of BananaBall, but with a Fremont twist: BovineBall. It would be a blast for the players, coaches, and fans, as the ballgame was an avalanche of hilarious moments throughout. The first inning saw Eli Larson (Sioux Falls) allow two runs to score—one on a walk to Jacob Perrin and another on a Dalton Bargo double scoring Perrin. The RBI walk would score a run from second, and Perrin would make it to second because a rule of BovineBall stipulates that if a walk occurs, the batter can run as far as he chooses before every defender can touch the ball. The Moo would push across four runs in the second, with a three-run home run from Tyman Long (North Dakota State) highlighting the inning. The Moo held a 4-2 lead, going to the third inning, where the Moo grabbed a 5-2 lead thanks to a passed ball, scoring Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) from third. The top of the fourth would see the Prospects push a run across on an inside the park home run walk as a wild throw from third baseman Grant Ryan (Northeast CC) would get past the left fielder Joshua Hardamon, allowing Finn Hochstein to score, making it 5-3. After a tie during the home run derby in between the top and bottom of the fourth, the Moo would strike for a run with Brayden Jones (Doane) with an RBI single, bringing in Tanner Jacobson (Cloud County) after Jacobson’s walk triple. The Moo had a 6-3 lead going to the fifth. The Prospects would score two in the fifth to pull the deficit down to a run. The commissioner of Bovine Ball, Ben Ascher would announce that the sixth and seventh innings would be played in reverse, meaning the batters would have to run to third out of the box. It did not affect the Prospects as they would tie the game up with an RBI single from Coby Hatcher. No runs in the seventh for either side before the Prospects put across four runs in the top of the eighth. The Moo mounted a comeback, striking for two runs in the bottom of the eighth, setting up for an exciting ninth with the score at 10-8 in favor of the Prospects. After an exciting ninth that featured a 9-2 double play from Cooper Fuchino. The Moo would go quietly in the ninth, finalizing the game and the 2025 season. A 10-8 loss in BovineBall. The 2025 season concluded with the Moo finishing with a 23-25 overall record and a BovineBall record of 0-1. The Moo will play tonight, which will conclude the 2025 ILB season. The Second Half Explained The Spearfish Sasquatch punched their ticket to the 2025 ILB Championship Series by clinching the first-half pennant. The second half began on June 28th. This means that the records effectively return to 0-0. The winner of the second half will face the Sasquatch in the ILBCS. The Oahe Zap clinched their first ever ILBCS berth. The Moo defeated the Prospects by a score of 9-6 Saturday night at Moller Field. Zach Vincent collects his final Moller victory in the process with a great seven inning performance. The sun rose upon Moller Field Saturday morning while the sun began to set on the 2025 Fremont Moo season. The final series of the season welcomed the Nebraska Prospects to the ballpark. A familiar foe that the Moo had seen twelve times this season. The Moo looked to capture what would be their eighth victory this season against the traveling Prospects team. Zach Vincent (Midland) would take the ball in his final collegiate level start and pitch a clean first inning. Jackson Cahoy pitched opposite of him for the Prospects and pitched a scoreless first of his own. Vincent would work another clean inning before the Moo would score a run for him. Midland teammate Joshua Hardamon drove home Henry Hayman (Akron) to make it 1-0. The Moo would strand two runners on base to end the second but they had a one run lead, going to the third. Another shutout inning from Vincent would bring the Moo bats up in the third. A lead off double from Tanner Jacobson (Cloud County) would bring up Carter Sintek. Sintek (Houston) would bring home Jacobson on a double to left on an incredibly high hop over the third baseman's head to make it 2-0. A few batters later, Henry Hayman (Akron) would rip a single into left to score two runs for Fremont. To cap off a four run inning, Seve Aguirre (SE Oklahoma State) would reach on an error to bring the final run of the Moo third. The Moo’s five run lead would be extended on a passed ball, scoring Carter Sintek and a sac fly from Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) to make it 7-0 Moo. The Moo didn’t stop scoring in the fourth. Nate Wachter (South Dakota State) single to right field to make it 8-0 Moo as the inning came to a close. Vincent would continue to deal in this one, but a single in fifth from Prospect pitcher/designated hitter Gil Schroeder would bring home a run to make it 8-1. In the seven, the Prospects would manufacture three runs to close the gap. Coby Hatcher would single into center to bring home one run. Two batters later, Gil Schroeder would drive a ball into the right field corner. The ball would get lodged in between the fence and the tarp, while the Moo right fielder pleaded for a ground rule double, Schroeder would gallop around the bases for what would be called a two run, inside the park home run. The scoreboard now read 8-4 at the end of the top of the seventh. The Moo struck for a lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Schroeder would walk home Tanner Jacobson with the bases loaded but would later get out of the inning, only allowing the lone run to score. The top of the eighth would see the Prospects push across two more runs. Vincent’s final outing ended after seven innings, as he allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits, two walks, and struck out five Prospects. He gave the ball to Fremont native, Landon Mueller (Eastern Michigan). One run scored on a groundout to first and another on an errand throwdown to second from Nate Wachter, trying to throw a runner out stealing second. The Moo’s lead dissipated down to three runs. After a scoreless eighth from the Moo, Mueller walked back out to the hill at Moller and got the final three outs, securing the Moo’s 9-6 victory. Zach Vincent would collect the win while Jackson Cahoy gets handed the loss. The Moo scored nine (9) runs on twelve (12) hits, while committing three (3) errors. The Prospects scored six (6) runs on seven (7) hits and committed one (1) error. Fremont moves to a 23-25 record on the season. The Prospects move to a 9-23 overall record after the result.
