Spearfish, South Dakota- Behind an excellent quality start from Zane Leyden, plus another double-digit hit performance, the Fremont Moo defeated the Spearfish Sasquatch 12-4, Tuesday night at Black Hills Energy Stadium.

The Moo scored in each of the first three innings. In the top of the first, Henry Hayman singled with out, then stole second base. Two batters later, Tyler Harrington hit a pop-up to shallow center field which Sasquatch shortstop Bailey Bordas dropped, allowing Hayman to score.

In the second, Jayson Willers and Tyler Hummel hit back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Jason Clark delivered a two-RBI triple into the right field corner, to make it 3-0.

Carter Sintek led off the top of the third with a single, followed by Tyler Harrington doing the same. Then a double-steal put runners at second and third. Conner Petersen then reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Sintek, to make it 4-0, Fremont.

The Moo doubled their lead in the top of the sixth. Tyler Hummel drew a walk. Then, Easton Steck hit a 1-1 pitch from Spearfish starter Cameron Murphy, over the left-center field fence for a two run home run, Steck's first of the year. Jason Clark followed with a double, which forced the Sasquatch to go to the bullpen and bring in Gage Kracht. Hunter Palmer then singled and Henry Hayman hit an RBI single, scoring Clark, to make it 7-0. Palmer would score on a wild pitch to put Fremont up 8-0.

Spearfish got on the board in the bottom of the seventh against Moo reliever Gavin Alveti. Seth Nelson hit a one out pinch-hit single. The next batter, pinch-hitter Joey Legg singled. Then, Trey Vorwald singled to bring in pinch runner Gage Kracht. Ryan Bachman hit into a 6-3-5 double play, but Legg scored before the final out of the inning was recorded, to make it 8-2.

Fremont put their final tally on the board in the top of the eighth. Jason Clark singled with one out, then advanced on a passed ball. Hunter Palmer singled, then Clark scored on a wild pitch. Then, Henry Hayman hit an RBI single, scoring Palmer. Carter Sintek finished up the Moo scoring with a two-RBI single, to make it 12-2.

Moo reliever Cole Hupke came on in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Luis Reyes doubled and got to third on a passed ball. Pinch-hitter Ben Seminara walked, then stole second. Christian Soto walked to load the bases. Hupke got Levi Graham to hit into a fielder's choice, which scored Reyes. Then a wild pitch scored Seminara to make it 12-4. Hupke recovered, striking out Trey Vorwald and getting Ryan Bachmann to ground out to Tyler Harrington at third base on a 3-2 pitch to end the game.

Fremont starter Zane Leyden (1-1) earned the win. The Firth native at Bellevue University did not give up a hit until the sixth inning. He pitched 6.0 innings, giving up just the one hit, walked three, struck out five and hit one batter. Gavin Alveti, the Searcy, Arkansas native headed to Central Arkansas, pitched 2.0 innings, giving up three hits and two runs. Cole Hupke, the Brandon, South Dakota native, pitched the ninth, giving up one hit, two runs, walked two, struck out one and had one wild pitch.

Spearfish starter Cameron Murphy (1-3) took the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings, giving up nine hits, six earned runs, walked one, struck out five, yielded the home run to Steck, and hit one batter. Gage Kracht pitched 3.0 innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, walked one, struck out one and had one wild pitch. Levi Graham pitched 1.0 inning. He gave up one hit and walked one.

Offensively, Fremont's Hunter Palmer was 2-for-5. The St. Michael, Minnesota native at South Dakota State had a single and a double. Henry Hayman was 4-for-6. The Melbourne, Australia native via Barton County Community College, had two RBI's. Carter Sintek was 2-for-5. The Fremont native at South Dakota State drove in two runs. Connor Petersen was 0-for-5, but the Tucson, Arizona native at Midland University, had two RBI's. Easton Steck was 1-for-5. The Galesburg, Illinois native headed to Illinois-Springfield hit a two run home run. Jason Clark was 3-for-4. The Victoria, Illinois native from Knox College had two RBI's.

Spearfish's Trey Vorwald was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Ryan Bachman was 0-for-3 with a run batted in and Levi Graham was 0-for-1 with an RBI.

More Information: With the win, Fremont equaled its highest mark above .500 this season at ten games. Plus, Fremont got to .500 in the second half of the schedule. Henry Hayman hit safely for the eighth straight game. With the loss, Spearfish is mathematically eliminated from postseason play.

Up Next: Fremont (29-19, 12-12) will play Spearfish (23-28, 12-14) in game two of the series, Wednesday night. First pitch at Black Hills Energy Stadium, in Spearfish, is 7:05pm (CT) / 6:05pm (MT). After the three game series concludes Thursday, Fremont will wrap up the regular season with a three-game set at Hastings, against the Sodbusters, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Moo Recap: 6/21 - Moo mashes their way to seventh straight win

The Fremont Moo took their seventh win in a row from the Nebraska Prospects, in a run-rule affair, 19-9 in eight innings. It was roses at the start for the Moo. The first six innings saw twelve runs cross the plate for Fremont. In the second, it was Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) who brought Grant Ryan (Northwest CC) back to even it at one. Next batter, Brady Brown (South Dakota State) would single home Brayden Jones (Doane) to give the Moo the lead. Another run would score to make it 3-1 Moo, at the end of the second. The next inning would see the Moo push two across to make it 5-2 Moo. Grant Ryan would highlight the inning with an RBI double. The fourth would see the Moo explode for five runs. Grant Ryan, Brinden Floyd (RCSJ), Cooper Fuchino (Creighton), Caiden Brezinski (Butler), and Brady Brown would all score to make it 10-2 Moo. Two more would cross in the fifth as Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would drive home two. It was 12-2 Moo as the Prospects would face the deficit head-on. The Prospects would make it a ballgame. Four runs in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, and a lone run in the eighth. The scoreboard read 12-9 heading to the bottom of the eighth. That's when the Moo mashers would come alive. Doubles from Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern), Brayden Jones, Brady Brown, and Caiden Brezinski would all find the gap and bring home runs, six in total, before Michael Baker stepped in. Baker needed a hit to bring home Brezinski to walk off the Prospects, and he would do that. The scoreboard read 19-9, and by ILB rules, a 10-run rule ended the game. The final line saw the Moo score nineteen (19) runs on sixteen (6) hits and commit six (6) errors. The Prospects scored nine (9) runs on nine (9) hits and had four (4) errors. The Moo improves to a 10-11 record. The Prospects sink to a 2-7 record on the season. Aiden McGrath (Skyline) picks up his first win of the season while Cody Cizek is handed the loss. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Sunday, June 22nd, as they go for win number 11 on the season.

The Moo picked up their sixth win in a row with a 9-5 victory over the Plainsmen on Fiesta Friday at Moller Field. The temperature matched the team's recent form as it reached 96 degrees at first pitch from Moller Field. The Moo’s sights set on win number six with a win against the Plainsmen to end the three-game series. Zach Vincent (Midland) got the nod opposite Matthew Avery, and the two would duel three shutout innings until the Plainsmen got to Vincent in the fourth, with a Jake Steffes two-RBI single giving the Plainsmen a 2-0 lead. The Moo would answer in the bottom of the frame with a lone run crossing with Tyler Wise (Kansas Wesleyan) getting plunked with the bases loaded. The Moo would strand the bases loaded as the scoreboard read 2-1 Plainsmen. The bottom of the sixth would be the Moo’s biggest inning. With two runners on, Luke Saxton (Missouri-St. Louis) would drive home a pair with a single to give his Moo the lead. He would later add to the lead with a wild throw into center on a check throw would allow Saxton to score. Jake Mitchell would end the innings scoring with a two-down the right field line to make it 6-2 Moo at the end of the 6th. Three more runs would score for the Moo in the bottom of the 8th. A fielder’s choice would bring home one, and the next two would score on a Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) single to make it 9-2 Moo at the end of the eighth. Baden Gluth (Creighton) was on the mound for the ninth to slam the door shut. It would get a little hectic as Brody Boyle would triple home three to pull it within four. Gluth would hunker down and secure the final out and the win. 9-5 Moo as they cruise to their sixth win in a row. The final line saw the Moo score nine (9) runs on six (6) hits and commit three (3) errors. The Plainsmen scored five (5) runs on nine (9) hits and had six (6) errors. The Moo improves to a 9-11 record. The Plainsmen fall 0-3 on the season. Parker Otte (Iowa Central) picks up his second win of the season while Breken Mason is handed his first loss of the season. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Saturday, June 21st, as they face the Prospects to begin the final series of the home stand.

Luca Dickinson was the man of the night at Moller Thursday as the Moo wins their fifth straight with a final of 5 to 0. The hottest team in the Independence League took the field on Thursday night, looking to extend their win streak to five straight. Luca Dickinson would be the man to lead the charge toward the goal. With his mother in attendance, Dickinson (Skyline) would spin a complete game shutout, striking out a season-best eleven (11) batters. He would allow three (3) hits and hit one (1) batter. The defense behind was perfect, committing no errors while starting two double plays behind Dickinson. The offense started slow, waltzing through four innings scoreless until the fifth, when Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) would score on a passed ball to give the Moo a 1-0 lead. Jacobsen would strike again with a sac fly in the sixth to make it 2-0, as Nate Wachter (South Dakota State) would score from third. The Moo would blow it open in the seventh inning, scoring three. One on a Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern) sacrifice fly, and the next two on a Grant Ryan (Northwest CC) single to make it 5-0 Moo. Dickinson would shut down the Plainsmen for the final three innings to secure the Moo’s fifth win in a row, 5-0 Moo, the final. The final line saw the Moo score five runs (5) on seven (7) hits and had no errors. The Plainsmen were shut out on three (3) hits and committed two (2) errors. The Moo improves to an 8-11 record. The Plainsmen fall 0-2 on the season. Luca Dickinson picks up his second win of the summer while Manny Barazza gets handed the loss. The Moo came back from their small, three-day break and didn’t miss a beat, as they would cruise to an 11-4 victory over the traveling Plainsmen on Wednesday night. It was a mix of perfecting the three facets of the game for the Moo. Good hitting, good pitching, and good defense all helped push the Moo toward their fourth win in a row. The scoring started right away in the first for the Moo. Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) slashed a two-RBI double off of Owen Kelley to make it 2-0 Moo. Baker would steal second, and with Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) standing on third, all Fuch had to do was see the throw down to second on the steal, which would allow him to score, making it 3-0 Moo. It started with the Moo offense and Michael Baker’s 5-for-5 night at the plate. In the second, Baker dug in and drove home Fuchino with an RBI double, making it 4-0 Moo. No inning would be bigger for the Moo than the fifth. Seven runs would score for the Moo. A pair of sac flies, a walk, a single, and RBI doubles from Seve Aguirre (Southeastern Oklahoma State) and Baker again would see the Moo go up 11-0 at the end of five. It was more than enough run support for Brooks Kneifl (Wayne State), who would spin six wonderful innings, striking out six batters. The Plainsmen would get a pair back with a Chris Ortega two-run home run, his first of the summer, making it 11-2. The last bit of offense for the Plainsmen would come on a Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) throwing error that would bring home two. It was 11-4 as Joe Hauser (Creighton) would hunker down and get through the final three innings to secure the 11-4 Moo victory. The final line saw the Moo score eleven runs (11) on eleven (11) hits and commit one (1) error. The Plainsmen scored four (4) runs on four (4) hits and committed no errors. The Moo improves to a 7-11 record. The Plainsmen open their season 0-1. Brooks Kneifl picks up his first win of the summer while Owen Kelley gets handed the loss, and Joe Hauser gets the save. The Moo came to Moller Field looking for a quick, three-game sweep of the Nebraska Prospects. The series finale would end with a massive 14-1 victory over the Prospects, run-ruling their opponent in seven innings. Zach Vincent (Midland) would take the mound and allow a run to score in the first on a fielder's choice. It would be the only run the Moo would allow as the bats would answer back big. Joshua Hardamon (Midland) would double home Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) to tie it up at one in the bottom of the first. Then in the third, Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) would scramble home on a passed ball to give the Moo a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. The fourth would see three runs score. One on a Brayden Jones (Doane) single, and two on a Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) to make it 5-1 Moo. The fifth would be the Moo’s biggest inning. SEVEN runs would cross the plate in the inning, highlighted by Jake Mitchell’s two-RBI double, and a Joshua Hardamon two-run RBI double. To cap it all off in the bottom of the 6th, Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern) would double home Brayden Jones and Caiden Brezinski (Butler) to put it well out of reach. 14-1 would be the final after seven innings because of the ILB’s ten-after-seven-run rule.
