Fremont Bats Come Alive In Victory Over Prospects

Fremont, Nebraska - Coming off a three day break, The Fremont Moo looked rested and the bats were vibrant in a 10-5 victory over the Nebraska Prospects in Independence League Baseball Association action, Wednesday night at Historic Moller Field. While taking the first game of the five game series, Fremont extended its winning streak to four games.


After a scoreless first inning, The Prospects got on the board in the top of the second. Against Fremont starter Bobby Simmons, The Prospects Nathan Vermoss led off with a single and Brice Wallar did the same to put runners at first and second. A wild pitch advanced Vermoss to third. Two batters later, Bodi Wallar hit a ground ball to short, scoring Vermoss to make it a 1-0 Prospects lead.


Fremont tied the game in the bottom of the second. Making his Moo season debut after returning from a near career threatening injury in the college season, Fremont native Carter Sintek singled off Prospects starter P.J. Loucks to lead off the inning. Jack Torosian walked to put runners at first and second. Then, a Loucks balk advanced the runners to second and third. Two batters later, Isaac Bonner hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Sintek, to tie the score at 1-1.


The Prospects recaptured the lead in the top of the third. With two outs, Nathan Vermoss reached on a walk. Brice Wallar singled and Jackson Trout delivered an rbi single, scoring Vermoss, to put The Prospects ahead, 2-1.


The Moo responded and took the lead for good in the bottom of the third. Josh Blount led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bridger Coleman reached on an infield single to put runners at first and second. Two batters later, Tyrus Petsche smacked an rbi double, plating Blount, to make it a 2-2 game. A second balk by Loucks allowed Coleman to score to make it 3-2, Fremont. Then, Carter Sintek singled, scoring Petsche, to put Fremont ahead, 4-2.


Fremont extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Dylan Brandenburg led off with a walk. Then, Josh Blount singled to put runners at first and third. The Prospects went to the bullpen and brought in Charlie Mosser to pitch. The first batter he faced, Bridger Coleman, singled, driving home Brandenburg, to make it 5-2, The Moo. Three batters later, Carter Sintek walked, then Jack Torosian did the same, with the bases loaded, scoring Blount, to put Fremont ahead, 6-2.


The Prospects fought back in the top of the fifth. Easton Swafford led off the inning by hitting the first pitch from Simmons over the right field fence, making it 6-3. 


The Moo added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. With one out, Dylan Brandenburg was hit by a pitch. An errant pickoff attempt at first advanced Brandenburg to second. Then, a wild pitch, plus a throwing error by catcher Ellliot Peterson, scored Brandenburg to make it 7-3, Fremont. Josh Blount drew a walk, then stole second. Bridger Coleman singled, then Cooper Fuchino hit an rbi double, scoring Blount, to put Fremont up 8-3.


The Prospects made things interesting in the top of the seventh. Versus Moo reliever Parker Otte, Elliott Peterson singled. Then, J.D. DiPrima doubled to put runners at second and third. A passed ball scored Peterson, to make it 8-4. Then, Brice Wallar grounded out to second, scoring DiPrima, to make it an 8-5 game.


Fremont kept the bats going in the bottom of the seventh. Against reliever J.T. Roy, Dylan Brandenburg singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, then scored on a balk, to make it a 9-5 Fremont lead.


The Moo added one more run for good measure in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs, Stephen Espinoza hit a solo home run over the "Moller Monster" to put Fremont up 10-5.


In the top of the ninth, Fremont reliever Theo Hughes worked around a one-out walk to retire the final two batters and close out The Moo 10-5 victory.


Fremont (22-14, 9-3) scored ten runs off fourteen hits with no errors. The Prospects (5-17, 0-7) had five runs off ten hits with two errors.


Moo starter Bobby Simmons (3-0) picked up the win. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three runs off eight hits, struck out three, walked three, yielded a home run, a wild pitch and hit one batter. Parker Otte pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two runs off two hits, struck out one and walked one. Theo Hughes pitched 2.0 innings, struck out three, walked one and had one wild pitch.


Prospects starter P.J. Loucks (0-3) took the loss. He pitched 3.0 innings, giving up six runs off seven hits, struck out four and walked two, committed two balks and had one wild pitch. Charlie Mosser pitched 3.0 innings, giving up one earned run off five hits, struck out one, walked three, had one wild pitch and hit one batter. J.T. Roy pitched 2.0 innings, giving up two runs off two hits, struck out three, walked one, yielded a home run, committed one balk and had one wild pitch.


Offensively for Fremont, Josh Blount was 2-for-4. Bridger Coleman went 3-for-4 with an rbi. Cooper Fuchino was 1-for-4 and drove in one run. Tyrus Petsche was 2-for-4 with an rbi. Carter Sintek was 2-for-4 and drove in one run. Jack Torosian went 1-for-3 with an rbi. Stephen Espinoza was 2-for-5 with a solo home run. Isaac Bonner was 0-for-5, but drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.


For The Prospects, Easton Swafford was 1-for-5 with a solo home run. Elliott Peterson was 2-for-5. Brice Wallar went 2-for-4 with an rbi. Jackson Trout was 1-for-2 and drove in one run. Bodi Wallar was 0-for-3 with an rbi.


The two teams will play game two of their five game series Thursday night. First pitch at Historic Moller Field is 7:05 p.m.


More Information:  Thursday's game is game thirteen of The Moo's 16-game homestand. Thursday is "Throwback Night", celebrating the 1980's. The Fremont Moo fell to the traveling Prospects in the Sunday afternoon contest by a score of 7-1 The Moo’s win streak was at seven straight, and they came into another scorching hot afternoon at Moller Field looking for another win Doane’s Broc Songster took the mound for the Moo and provided another stellar outing, going six innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out three Prospects. Jaxson Cahoy would match Songster on the mound, throwing six clean innings and striking out six batters. The first run would come for the Prospects in the third. An unearned run would cross the plate on a sac fly to make it 1-0 Prospects. The game would stay 1-0 until the seventh inning, when both teams would put runs on the board. The Prospects would make it 2-0 with another sac fly, and the Moo would answer with an RBI groundout from Jake Mitchell, scoring Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) to make it 2-1, Prospects still in front by a run. The score would hold until the top of the ninth when the Prospects scored five runs to make it 7-1, effectively putting the game away and ending the Moo’s seven-game win streak. The final line saw the Moo score one (1) run on six (6) hits and commit five (5) errors. The Prospects scored seven (7) runs on nine (9) hits and had no errors. The Moo drops to a 10-12 record. The Prospects pick up their record at 3-7. Moo Recap: 6/21 - Moo mashes their way to seventh straight win

The Fremont Moo took their seventh win in a row from the Nebraska Prospects, in a run-rule affair, 19-9 in eight innings. It was roses at the start for the Moo. The first six innings saw twelve runs cross the plate for Fremont. In the second, it was Preston Gajewski (NOC-Tonkawa) who brought Grant Ryan (Northwest CC) back to even it at one. Next batter, Brady Brown (South Dakota State) would single home Brayden Jones (Doane) to give the Moo the lead. Another run would score to make it 3-1 Moo, at the end of the second. The next inning would see the Moo push two across to make it 5-2 Moo. Grant Ryan would highlight the inning with an RBI double. The fourth would see the Moo explode for five runs. Grant Ryan, Brinden Floyd (RCSJ), Cooper Fuchino (Creighton), Caiden Brezinski (Butler), and Brady Brown would all score to make it 10-2 Moo. Two more would cross in the fifth as Michael Baker (Cal State-Chico) would drive home two. It was 12-2 Moo as the Prospects would face the deficit head-on. The Prospects would make it a ballgame. Four runs in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, and a lone run in the eighth. The scoreboard read 12-9 heading to the bottom of the eighth. That's when the Moo mashers would come alive. Doubles from Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern), Brayden Jones, Brady Brown, and Caiden Brezinski would all find the gap and bring home runs, six in total, before Michael Baker stepped in. Baker needed a hit to bring home Brezinski to walk off the Prospects, and he would do that. The scoreboard read 19-9, and by ILB rules, a 10-run rule ended the game. The final line saw the Moo score nineteen (19) runs on sixteen (6) hits and commit six (6) errors. The Prospects scored nine (9) runs on nine (9) hits and had four (4) errors. The Moo improves to a 10-11 record. The Prospects sink to a 2-7 record on the season. Aiden McGrath (Skyline) picks up his first win of the season while Cody Cizek is handed the loss. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Sunday, June 22nd, as they go for win number 11 on the season.

Moo Recap: 6/20 - Moo remain hot, sweep series versus Plainsmen

The Moo picked up their sixth win in a row with a 9-5 victory over the Plainsmen on Fiesta Friday at Moller Field. The temperature matched the team's recent form as it reached 96 degrees at first pitch from Moller Field. The Moo’s sights set on win number six with a win against the Plainsmen to end the three-game series. Zach Vincent (Midland) got the nod opposite Matthew Avery, and the two would duel three shutout innings until the Plainsmen got to Vincent in the fourth, with a Jake Steffes two-RBI single giving the Plainsmen a 2-0 lead. The Moo would answer in the bottom of the frame with a lone run crossing with Tyler Wise (Kansas Wesleyan) getting plunked with the bases loaded. The Moo would strand the bases loaded as the scoreboard read 2-1 Plainsmen. The bottom of the sixth would be the Moo’s biggest inning. With two runners on, Luke Saxton (Missouri-St. Louis) would drive home a pair with a single to give his Moo the lead. He would later add to the lead with a wild throw into center on a check throw would allow Saxton to score. Jake Mitchell would end the innings scoring with a two-down the right field line to make it 6-2 Moo at the end of the 6th. Three more runs would score for the Moo in the bottom of the 8th. A fielder’s choice would bring home one, and the next two would score on a Cooper Fuchino (Creighton) single to make it 9-2 Moo at the end of the eighth. Baden Gluth (Creighton) was on the mound for the ninth to slam the door shut. It would get a little hectic as Brody Boyle would triple home three to pull it within four. Gluth would hunker down and secure the final out and the win. 9-5 Moo as they cruise to their sixth win in a row. The final line saw the Moo score nine (9) runs on six (6) hits and commit three (3) errors. The Plainsmen scored five (5) runs on nine (9) hits and had six (6) errors. The Moo improves to a 9-11 record. The Plainsmen fall 0-3 on the season. Parker Otte (Iowa Central) picks up his second win of the season while Breken Mason is handed his first loss of the season. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Saturday, June 21st, as they face the Prospects to begin the final series of the home stand.

South Dakota State Studs Both Nate Wachter and Brady Brown secured two hits in yesterday's game. They provided half of the team's eight (8) hits in the contest. Hit Streaks Seve Aguirre (Southeastern Oklahoma State) and Micahel Baker (Cal State-Chico) are both currently amid 5-game hit streaks. Baker has a .714 average in that span, while Aguirre has a.389 average since hit hit streak began. Traveling Plainsmen The traveling Plainsmen continue their 18-game, all-away schedule. It came in a big spot, as he drove in two runs to help secure the 5-0 win. #18 - OF TANNER JACOBSEN (B/T: R/R) Jacobsen (Cloud County) got the offense going in yesterday’s, swiping home on a based ball to give the Moo a 1-0 lead, and then hit a sac fly to make it 2-0. He also collected a hit in the win. PLAINSMEN: #2 - OF BRADY ALEXANDER (B/T: R/R) Alexander plays a fine outfield while also being a top bat in the Plainsmen line up. He had a single in yesterday’s game. #7 - INF DAX WANDLER (B/T: R/R) Wandler was the only Plainsmen to not strike out in yesterday's game. He also plays an exception infield, making a couple of fine picks yesterday.

Moo Recap: 6/19 - Dickinson dazzles as he tosses shut out against the Plainsmen

Luca Dickinson was the man of the night at Moller Thursday as the Moo wins their fifth straight with a final of 5 to 0. The hottest team in the Independence League took the field on Thursday night, looking to extend their win streak to five straight. Luca Dickinson would be the man to lead the charge toward the goal. With his mother in attendance, Dickinson (Skyline) would spin a complete game shutout, striking out a season-best eleven (11) batters. He would allow three (3) hits and hit one (1) batter. The defense behind was perfect, committing no errors while starting two double plays behind Dickinson. The offense started slow, waltzing through four innings scoreless until the fifth, when Tanner Jacobsen (Cloud County) would score on a passed ball to give the Moo a 1-0 lead. Jacobsen would strike again with a sac fly in the sixth to make it 2-0, as Nate Wachter (South Dakota State) would score from third. The Moo would blow it open in the seventh inning, scoring three. One on a Grant Rychnovsky (Northwestern) sacrifice fly, and the next two on a Grant Ryan (Northwest CC) single to make it 5-0 Moo. Dickinson would shut down the Plainsmen for the final three innings to secure the Moo’s fifth win in a row, 5-0 Moo, the final. The final line saw the Moo score five runs (5) on seven (7) hits and had no errors. The Plainsmen were shut out on three (3) hits and committed two (2) errors. The Moo improves to an 8-11 record. The Plainsmen fall 0-2 on the season. Luca Dickinson picks up his second win of the summer while Manny Barazza gets handed the loss. The Moo are back at Moller Field on Friday, June 20th, as they face the Plainsmen to finish the three-game series.
